The $16k is purely to compensate Dolan for his attorney’s fees incurred, and it is almost certainly exactly what he asked for. The $50k is for wasting the court’s time with obvious horseshit. And there are a dozen or more motions for Rule 11 sanctions still pending. This could all get quite problematic for Trump’s shitty lawyers and his MAGA PAC. It would be quite like him to just leave them hanging out there.
Say it ain’t so. Don’t know why I’m particularly saddened by the state of that race but I really, reeeealy want to see her lose. Kari Lake too.
I hear ya. I have felt great these last couple of days. Even though we didn’t get the two extra votes we needed in order to pass more legislation through the Senate, it looks like we’re going to hold the chamber with an additional pickup. It’s hard to imagine that ManchEma will move from their current position even with the additional seat, but who knows? They’re both up for reelection in 2024 and it’s impossible to know how that might play into their decision-making. With AZ continuing to trend blue, Sinema may be finally questioning if her idiotic strategy is really even worth it at this point. Plus, if I were in the Biden administration I’d be kicking around the idea of offering Manchin a cabinet seat in the next administration if he agrees to play ball and loses his next election. A big thing that came out of this election is that Team Biden has been handed some additional tools to work with over the next two years.
Another reason I’m so happy right now is that I think, possibly, this country has finally grown up. Team Democracy has shown up in three election cycles in a row. Despite a president with pretty low approval ratings, high gas prices, high inflation, and high interest rates, Americans put that all to the side and voted to protect democracy. That’s stunning. Instead of having a sad and reflexively voting to punish the president’s party, folks showed up and showed out and voted Democratic. This means something significant. Dem voters may finally be the kinds of regular voters who turn out every cycle. Imagine where we could be in two years if gas prices and inflation come back down. Biden will have one helluva story to tell.
On the other side of things, we aren’t seeing all the lawsuits like in 2020. Sure, there were some and there will probably be more to come, but there haven’t been an unusual number of lawsuits than we’d expect in any cycle. I suspect they’ll put up a fight over the CCM vs. Laxalt race if she’s declared the winner, but even that’s not out of the norm. I’m old enough to remember how long it took to seat Senator Franken.
Also, we’re not seeing a bunch of candidates refusing to concede. At least no more than usual with really close elections. A surprising number of the fiercest election deniers have conceded in one way or another. And we also aren’t seeing the violence so many predicted. Yes, there has been some, particularly the attack on Paul Pelosi, but the mass violence hasn’t yet materialized. Maybe it still will, but it doesn’t look like it.
At the end of the day, I think we’re gonna keep it. That’s what’s bringing me all the joy. We have a better chance of keeping it today than we did a month ago. If Dems manage to hold onto the House, I’ll say that we’ve kept it. It’s been one crazy, amazing week.
I think you are probably correct. However, the fact that the Dems maintaining the majority in the House is even a theoretical possibility at this point is pretty astounding.
Could the Senate be in a position to defang Sinema and Manchin from their hi-jinks with the GQP?
Was it enough?
Oh dear, seems Elon didn’t realize being a schmuck and painting a target on his back was going to end in people taking aim at him, not kissing his ass.
A toast to Muddy (but it’s only coffee). May he return or RIP
Yep. Apparently, they thought the concerns of the summer would just fly out of our little heads. How can we be expected to remember things from…four or five months ago?
Fiddle-dee-dee.
“Ballots are still being processed in Nevada, with many votes still outstanding in Republican-heavy Lincoln County and Carson City and Democratic-leaning Washoe County.”
… … … … … …
51 Dems in the Senate would be really nice…
And here in AZ the democrats did well considering how red the state is. The State chambers were very close to flipping, Hobbs may win …Finchem nose dived into the dirt (good) so at this point it’s a good day.
Trump has well over $100 million in his Save America PAC alone, with tens of more millions in lesser PACS, and who knows how much secreted away in violation of various laws and FEC regulations. I think the Judge could do his worst to Trump and his legal team in terms of monetary sanctions and the sum total of the damages would be a rounding error in relation to what Trump has raised and squirreled away.
I think Co - 3 is gonna be undecided for a while: neither candidate has enough votes to avoid a recount. Thus, I can, at least, enjoy the fantasy that she loses for a little longer.
Perhaps not a Dem controlled Congress as much as a pissed off American people that showed that in not punishing Biden as expected. Big Pharma hooked up with their usual liars ( Rick Scott etc ) to fund whoppers like “the dems cut 38 billion from Medicare” and that shit flopped. The voters proved resistant to the only weapon Pharma has…lies coming from the mouth of elected officials. Pharma may be reading the writing on the wall. With the Democrats holding the Senate ( Fuck you Scott ) and the House narrowly split its almost certain Pharma is looking a price regulation popular with the American people…therefor tough to bullshit them on.
Biden’s done a remarkable job battling Big Pharma. He’s not done yet, the midterms vindicated his previous efforts and he survived those midterms able to fight on. I expect Pharma Board meetings to be sad places for the next 2 years.
His Twitter problem is that he uses Twitter.
Never get high on your own supply…
Too bad trump isn’t sharing Alex Jones’s fines.
You think?
“I don’t know the guy, never heard of him.”
If the Judges are sick of this time wasting bullshit they’ve got the tools to end it right now. 50K is damn sure not going to do it.
GREAT analogy! Nicely done.
