Sadly, they don’t see how exposing Trump’s corrupt actions is actually their quickest way out of the mess. Trying to stay on the sidelines isn’t going to work as Trump will cross any boundary irregardless of legality or morality.
Bring silent as GOPers are doing is supporting Trump’s corrupt behavior.
The Ukranians need to know that everything trump touched dies. Don’t hold onto his coat tails. trump’s way of life is corrupt so he has never learned any other way to do things. He had no idea at the time that pulling a blackmail stunt like he did was illegal. I don’t mean that in his defense. I’m just stating his shortcoming.
No sht, Sherlock…however, if you ‘think’ for one minute Donnie cares what YOU think when he doesn’t care what his own country thinks, you are in for a rude awakening.
Actually, I would suggest that his best play is to stall for time and see how this plays out. Chances are that Donnie has screwed the pooch here, but dumping him now will certainly bring at least short term pain.
Let’s not forget that Donnie has had it in for the Ukraine since he messed with the Republican Party platform to screw with commitments to that country, so no reason to think he’ll ever “do the right thing” by them, except to cause collateral damage elsewhere. So short term they need allies who can help guarantee their safety, so I’d be working the nations of the EU, especially Germany and France, to line up a backstop. Then, watch to see if we can finally clean up our own mess and get sane leadership back, at which point we can again lend a hand.
And let’s be clear - this behavior from Donnie and his minions is causing deep and long-lasting damage to our standing with the free world. Repairing that will not be easy, but a clear conviction and expulsion of Donnie and a gaggle of his henchmen will be a necessary if not sufficient first step…
But the executive branch of the government isn’t asking them for any transcript, and they can’t deal officially with the House in any legal way I’m aware of, so they’re in a difficult position here. Their best scenario is simply to be left out of what they see as a domestic partisan issue, however serious and internationally consequential it might be.
I just hope that, when Chiselin’ Trump and Zelenskiy hold a presser after their meeting, some member of the press asks Zelenskiy if he would allow Chiselin’ Trump to release transcripts of their phone calls.
What I don’t understand is why we aren’t being asked to support those H of R members who are waffling due to being in red or purple districts. If called upon, we could provide all kinds of support for them.
