Wait. You believe that? Dude! Remember when it really was “shareholder value”? Remember how it never fucking worked because the management class nixed anything with real value, leaving only cost reductions, mostly labor cost reductions?
They no more believe in being socially responsible in their communities than they believe in the tooth fairy. However, if it’ll make the rubes less likely to hate their company, then they’ll play a round of golf on the local par three course.

Well, it’s clear that Patrick believes he has found a way to benefit personally from this. That or the excuses and cover-up is already in place. I’m nothing the long delay between the announcement of those tapes and Patrick’s call for their release. As you know, gops waste no time assembling a criminal conspiracy, so this is a piece of cake. Vanilla cake, but cake nevertheless.
That was the only way they could fit it in. The greed and callousness were too close to the money laundering vent.

What really, really gets me is they decided in 1997 to make their mantra shareholder first and foremost. The attitude was there prior, but now I understand a lot of the madness of what was going on after. What would it have been like if they had concluded what they did now? I bet the mega compensated CEO would have been a rarity.
Since the tape is now evidence in a Texas Rangers investigation, there ought to be a flood of FOIA requests under the Texas Open Meetings Act for its release. Under the act, any person, not just a Texas citizen, can file a request.
