Unfortunately we are in the middle of the sewer of this administration. So it is hard to look in any direction and not see crap. But what if this repudiation of Trump is not only an overseas phenomenon, but one here as well?
I think this is awfully optimistic. I was reading a piece in Wapo about rosy-bespectacled traders making the same sort of assumptions: that Trump would “come to his senses” and all would be okay.
Of course, the sad reality is that even if he renounced it all tomorrow, the job of repairing everything he’s already messed up will take a decade or two (or three.) Just stopping doing stupid stuff won’t fix anything, even if it mitigates future damages.
Both of your points are well taken. My point was to mark Kraznof’s claim of universality evidenced by opulence as counterfeit in the extreme. My sincere apologies to anyone who interpreted my remark as suggesting that Catholicism or catholics, as such, belong in the fundamentalist and/or prosperity gospel camp. Some of us, precisely because of our religious persuasion, are determined to do all we can for as long as we can to oppose everything Trump stands for.
Back in the early 90’s Horowitz wrote a book called “Hating Whitey”. His premise was that the civil rights movement became radicalized and unmoored from its origins of fighting for public accommodations and equality in the post Brown vs Board era. Maybe he was being sarcastic and provocative with the title. Or maybe he really thought that most Blacks harbored ill intentions and were some amalgamation of H. Rap Brown, Stokely Carmichael and George Jefferson.
