And speaking about Briscoe specifically, every time I’ve seen him on tape or a pix he still looks young, but young in different ways. Maybe because he’s short he just can’t project that authority that he craves.

Votes are counted by local elections officials, not the SOS. There’s always the possibility of fuckery at the margins, but I wouldn’t count on it. If he refuses to certify some close election, he’ll just get sued and lose.

The footage Briscoe debating the Dem, sorry I don’t remember his name, in the well of the TX legislature has stuck with me because Briscoe looked liked his Mom dragged him to JC Penny to get a new suit, while the Dem really did have a nice cut suit on. Which just made more delicious when Briscoe got his dressing down.

I still think that’s mostly true. For instance, there were a lot of Republicans last year who went ahead and certified elections, stood up to the squawking and threats from members of their own party. Hell, some even stood up to the POTUS. They were fine with making it really hard to vote, purging voter rolls, and the like, but overturning democracy was a bridge too far. I tend to think what you’ve described is most of the bad people one comes across on the day-to-day. Another example is that lots of men are fine with getting a woman drunk in order to have sex with her, but most see holding a woman down and raping her that way as being out of bounds. Most bad people have a line they won’t cross which is why they’re not in prison.

As I understand it from conversations decades ago, the women favor this kind of shit do it to punish the “sluts” who clearly lust after their dumpy, balding marital partner, Herman. None of them bother to remember their own twenty-something days, if they had any. More to the point, the actual average abourtion patient is a married mother of three who had a failure in her anti-pregnancy protection. Not that Karen cares.

Absolutely. There are lots of “Pick Me” women out there who desperately want the approval and attention of men. They seek it by hating women more than those men do. They’re the types of women who hear about a woman being attacked and want to know what she was doing out at the time of night.

Exactly. It’s not dissimilar to resistance to better work-life balance by those who were successful under the old system. They sacrificed time with their families to achieve success, and now you’re telling them they could have had that time and still been successful? It’s too painful to contemplate, so they double down on the idea that the way they did things was the only possible path. To do otherwise is career suicide- and they will personally make sure that’s true for you too.
