Tennessee Children Were Illegally Jailed. Now Members Of Congress Are Asking For an Investigation. | Talking Points Memo

They are not pro-life, they are anti recreational sex. That is why they oppose any measure to provide birth control to teenagers or even having health insurance cover contraceptives for adults. As this people see it, pregnancy is the punishment of having sex for fun, and abortion or day after pills are just a way for women to cheat out their god-ordered punishment.

And I say it as a pro-life myself. And no, I do not support abortion ban.

Yep, I would assume that 2014 and prior when the stats that were kept and published meant that someone had to collect the info, so why didn’t anyone look at the info and question the 10 times rate of incarceration in one county vs all the other counties?
It shouldn’t just be this judge who has the boom lowered on her, but whoever on the TN AG office should be investigated too.

Matt Gaetz would like to have a word with you.

Seriously, the anti-abortion stuff is totally about controlling women. Because if they can leave you, what the hell is the point of having a relationship with one?

As far as most Tennesseans are concerned Memphis would just as well be washed away by the river all the way to the Gulf.

Indeed. Apparently, the county charges $175 per day to incarcerate children. After a local uproar cut into their income, they started offering incarceration services to other Tennessee counties. Wouldn’t want all that experience and space to go to waste. :face_with_monocle:

Our AG is Herbert Slatery, who seems to have gotten his JD from either Trump University or the back of a random cereal box.
He should have been disbarred years ago for being terminally stupid.

Ridiculously untrue.

Never seen it in real life. Mostly, I see incels who fancy themselves as “ultraviolent” crusaders against the horrifying spectacle of white men with poor hygiene having to act like decent human beings in order to get dates with nice girls.

OT: I see that Kentucky (which always looked a lot like Tennessee to me) has killed another inmate in the county jail through depraved indifference. And the justice system continues to ignore that sort of thing while protecting the incels mit der badges und der gunz.

How long has he been in office? I would also assume that there is some sort of oversight by House and Senate in the TN lege.

Laws, rules and principles do not apply to political, religious and economic leaders personal behavior. And this is not an American phenomenon, it has been throughout human history. So no there is inconsistency between uber-bastard Matt Gaetz personal sex life and the policies that he is willing to push.

No doubt there is a huge element of that, but again there must be other sentiments as well, among the anti-abortion crowd there are tons of women, including some that I know for a fact no man will dare controlling them.

Internalized misogyny is a real thing. There are plenty of women who think it’s better for them to be controlled by men.

Well this Pro Publica and TN Pubic Radio investigation should become a the big stick to whack the Gov Lee, and Chairman Mike Bell of the TN Senate Judiciary Committee, and would it be Chairman Darren Jernigan, Civil Justice Committee, or Chairman Michael Curcio, (who by the way looks 14 in his official House picture), Criminal Justice Committee.

None of those lackwits gives a rat’s round rear about anything that gets in the way of their far-right agenda.

Or, slightly more charitably, if all your life you have made the safe, careful choice to ensure a safe, comfortable life and avoid the terrible perils awaiting those who deviate, then the very thought that another woman had fun but won’t be punished could be enraging.

Well then there’s their failure to replicate Rutherford County’s juvenile justice system in the other counties.
