Hey, Stuart–Are you happy with what you built?
I’m sure Romney has binders full of “severe consequences”.
Of course, if he really meant it, he could always caucus with the Democrats.
¯\_ (ツ) _/¯
… and he is too timid to do what he would need to do to have a chance -
He’s an opportunist in a plot in search of a hero.
The Trump administration is going full Death in Venice, while a pandemic swirls around them.
But then he could never again be the Great White Hope of the Republican party (it’s not like the Democrats would ever support a bid from him for president). His only hope is to hang on and wait for the GOP to come back to him and its true “conservative roots.” They’ll realize any day now that the stable stationwagon is the true car for them, not the monster truck with the misfiring fuel injector.
Any day now…
Quick, fetch some good people!
Nixon resigned because the Dems had majorities in the House and Senate and there were enough “Rockefeller Republicans” who were going to vote along with the Dems to convict him.
… first he would have to summon up his powers of persuasion & leadership to get a couple of cohorts to join him in this interim alliance … otherwise he would just be a pointless martyr
Oh but it would be such an inconvenience for poor Mittens … all of that anxiety … and just to preserve the integrity of what? 240+ years of democracy?
He won’t get any Dem votes in a presidential race or any Trump Republican votes but I reckon he has the Thoughtful Polite Republican vote locked in. That’s like tens of votes probably.
Foreign policy in the biggest area where the president has unilateral authority and can create long lasting issues. A few examples…
A few days ago, Covid Donnie asked for options to bomb Natanz, the Iranian nuclear enrichment facility. This would start a shooting war with iran, basically stop global oil shipping, and slam the door shut on a new Iranian nuclear deal. Any attempt to remediate the situation would be colored by republicans as a capitulation to terrorism (meanwhile Donnie has literally been endorsed by the actual Taliban).
Also a few days ago, Pompeo went to Israel to congratulate and bless a new jewish settlement in East Jerusalem that further eats into the two state solution. Of course, he says nothing about the bulldozing of bedouin homes or about Sheldon Adelson buying the old US embassy in Tell Aviv for 80m which will prevent us from moving forward with the Jerusalem move.
He’s just poisoning the wells and salting the fields at this point. The worst of what Dipshit lied and said Obama did - they are/will be doing.
Spying, planting moles, setting up listening devices, draining strategic stocks, selling pardons, etc.
I’d be checking every drawer, bed, and tea kettle for bugs and posionus snakes…
The problem here is that the President obviously and appropriately runs the Executive Branch, with all its attendant powers. No one ever anticipated we’d have a President this corrupt, demented, narcissistic, and oblivious to reality. Let’s face it -the 25th amendment is basically unworkable.
Republicans had their opportunity to remove him, refused to do so, and now here we are. Adam Schiff called this in what seems decades ago now, but was only 10 months ago.
What they should do now is call out all his maneuvers as anti-democratic, corrupt, indecent, and unacceptable, and demand the transition process begin.
We can’t very well tell the military not to obey the President, even as he undermines America’s national security. Though it’s also problematic, the best we can hope for is they slow walk orders they believe threaten our country or we’re delivered in bad faith.
“We have some 40 coalition members that also have troops there. For us to pull our troops out obviously puts our remaining troops in some danger, as well as their troops,”
Shorter Trump to coalition members: Fuck your feelings.
Good People:
(1) Send Trump Out of Office
(2) Take the Senate
We can do it.
They were talking about all of this on yesterday’s Pod Save the World episode. There’s a LOT of damage that can be done, even in between the time spent golfing and twitter ranting. He wants to screw over any chance Biden has to deal with Iran, Afghanistan, and the Middle East.
I have to admit, I thought this lame duck period would be dangerous, but I thought it would be domestic. I guess I thought Trump has no idea what the hell is going on anywhere else in the world and that his attention span didn’t reach that far. Sad to say I was hell wrong. It appears he’s going to tear it all down.
Didn’t he exit early because no one was wearing a mask?
Central casting, am I right?
I think we can do it, but for me, personally, the “American Experiment” is over.
To quote Josh:
But as much as we can mock and laugh at these clowns in this press conference – and we absolutely should, it is the moral and ethical thing to do so – they are passively or actively supported by almost the entire institutional Republican party. And that corruption will continue and be a battle all Americans will have to engage for years to come.
By the time things are set right, if they are ever set right, I’ll have passed on.
I KNOW that it’s ‘scary’ Mittens but other than a few random criticisms YOU guys ‘normalized’ this behavior. Yep.
Only the white folks say this about other white folks. Otherwise it’s more like "You ain’t from 'round these parts, is ya? … (pause)… what can I do you for? "
And meanwhile in rural Ct or MA you can still find all the trump flags, pickup trucks, and meth addicts you are expecting to see in states far to the south and west. It’s not a geography issue so much as a Urban and Rural issue. The big city is blue and the rest of the state is red. Same in PA, MA, CT, ME, NY, TX, GA, Az, etc
