As my sainted mom used to say in situations like this…
" welp, it’s on account a because" (she had a sort of soft southern accent that ya had to listen for to catch).
How much time do I have?
There are many liberals in those red states…
Even in Florida, the gap between registered Republicans and Democrats is only four points (52-48).
A mere 2-point shift closes that gap, and ties everything up.
(And a 2-point shift is totally doable.)
Arizona has deep red pockets but other places are much further left bh comparison
In the last election we almost broke the GOP strangle hold on our legislature for the first time in 54 years. One seat in our state senate and just 4 in our House. It’s that close.
Only provide funding to those states / congressional districts for those who voted YEA on the bill. Red states will suffer immediately, in most cases. Again, unconstitutional, but worth discussion.

What was the outcome of the suit?
No idea, but I’m assuming the election ended all of that.
This country exists because of revenue sharing.
I respectfully disagree on point B. If they don’t want the money to be spent, remove their state’s portion and return it to the general fund and let them (and their constituents) live with their decisions. You know, boot straps and all that.
Doesn’t work like that.
There are blue cities in Mississippi, Missouri, SC, Tennessee, etc.
Red state governors might giggle at first (medicaid expansion), but a federal hand in restricting funds will bring the lawsuits.
Def from Orlando, Jacksonville, etc., but don’t be surprised if DeSantis joins in.
What happens when these red states don’t use the money for which it was intended?
Sheiss, I forgot
I don’t think Washington presses them about unused funds.
Hmmm.
Mind u, there are rules regarding federal grants and every dollar has to be accounted.
I don’t know what happens if there’s a surplus.
Tiring to read of the Republicans who vote against a funding bill, only to proclaim how beneficial the proceeds are for their respective states / constituents. In my mind, it is a bit of fraud for an elected official to tout funding for their constituents when the rep / senator voted against the funding.
Look at it this way: the ONLY times Republicans in Congress can report back to their constituents that the Federal government is doing something positive to help the American people is when Democrats are in control. Republicans, themselves, would never lift a finger to expand the nation’s broadband, or fix bridges, or repair any other part of America’s infrastructure. If they don’t take some credit for the good that’s coming to their Congressional districts, then their constituents would get the very real impression that the person they elected to do such work for them is completely worthless.
Why do so many so-called liberals and progressives want to punish red states and the people who live there?
Ya know, one just gets so danged tired of people that truly benefit from liberal and progressive programs continuously griping and complaining and calling these programs socialist or communist while pocketing the money and continuing to elect representatives that neither truly represent a majority of their interests and reps that also work danged hard to keep from providing benefits to anyone other than themselves.
There are real world consequences, but the liberals and progressives manage to mitigate a lot of the damage and are vilified for doing it. I realize that being a California resident I’m not getting anywhere near the “ROI” on my taxes that “Red States” manage to pull in – and still they complain all the way to the grocery store while doing their darnedest to impose their restrictive life choices on the rest of the country.
It’s irksome in the extreme. It’s not that I want them “punished,” per se, but it would be welcome to see some understanding and appreciation that while they bitch and moan, they should also be grateful for the “help” that a rising tide can bring.
Woe to all of us if the GOP ever did manage to completely take over the government and impose their “conservative” principles. Never mind broadband, we’d all be lucky to have affordable clean drinking water to boil our old boots in for soup while the true elite continue to thrive… Oh, and when that happens, they will also find away to do away with that precious 2nd Amendment so they don’t have to worry about an uprising. See, guns are only needed to protect from a liberal government – is a puzzlement.
What happens when these red states don’t use the money for which it was intended?
I can assure you (having been married to a department head in a federal agency for 25 years) that federal grants can NOT be misspent by states. Money isn’t just blindly handed over; acceptance documents are signed, with legal obligations enforceable in courts.
Even if someone were dumb enough to try misspending federal grant money – and they’re not – future funds (which states receive every day of the year) would simply be withheld in lieu of the misspent ones.
Red states can’t spend grant money on whatever they want; it just doesn’t work that way.
Good to know. I guess that’s why some red states refused funding for Medicaid?
Why do so many so-called liberals and progressives want to punish red states and the people who live there?
Republicans do that to blue states just for fun. To answer your question, though, payback is a bitch.
