The long-established tradition of Republican lawmakers touting provisions they voted against is back in full force.
First.
Tiring to read of the Republicans who vote against a funding bill, only to proclaim how beneficial the proceeds are for their respective states / constituents. In my mind, it is a bit of fraud for an elected official to tout funding for their constituents when the rep / senator voted against the funding.
Tuberville, et al, shouting from the rooftops on the broadband funding, for example, is disingenuous at best and fraudulent at worst. Their constituents don’t know the better, unless they do some research to see that their rep / senator voted AGAINST the funding. It hurts my brain and makes very angry.
My significant other has a solution, which I pointed out is most likely unconstitutional: Only provide funding to those states / congressional districts for those who voted YEA on the bill. Red states will suffer immediately, in most cases. Again, unconstitutional, but worth discussion.
The GOP does not believe in being fair to opponents. Nor do their supporters.
Or to their constituents, for that matter. No matter how shamelessly they grub for credit now, their votes are on the record: against expanded access to broadband, against keeping rural hospitals solvent, against fair elections and any kind of accountability.
I guess Grassley voted for it after he couldn’t “kill it in the crib.”
TFG wouldn’t even BEGIN to do this over four years. He lit fires instead.
Apparently Ernst, Feenstra, and Miller-Meeks voted against it.
Rethugliklans: Once again making Frank Gallagher* seem respectable, veracious even.
*Shameless character played by William H. Macy.
The DNC needs to start running ads (social media, radio, and whatever; nobody watches the teevie anymore) calling these people out. Representative Jimbob claims credit for getting y’all money for whatever. Here’e the record: He voted against it. He was against it before he “took credit” for it. Don’t be fooled!
This needs to go forth in at least every currently Republican congressional district, and every state with one or more Republican senators. A month before the election … in 2024! … is TOO LATE. Debunk the lies now, in approximately real time.
Things like this were a common sight during the great pandemic:
I’d love it if Biden called them out at any and all groundbreaking ceremonies for these projects where the GOPers dare to show up. “Not sure why you voted against this project that will benefit your constituents, Senator, but we welcome your support now, jack-ss.”
I think all of the infrastructure funding is money well spent even if it is going to the old south and the extractive states. If the Democratic party doesn’t bash the GOP politicians who voted against it over their heads then it is shame on the Democrats. The real issue is can Democrats in Alabama, Texas et al. get the attention of the local press to hold the Republican politicians to account. That one has me worried. The local press all over the old south and in the extractive states like Texas and Louisianna is uniformly Republican controlled.
Decades ago Bill Clinton asked an unnamed Rethugliklan, “Why do you guys have to fight so dirty?”
“Because it’s the only way we can win,” he replied.
SHAMELESS! To the max!
It has almost gotten to the point that when a right wingnut opens his mouth I just want to pull out my and pee on his shoes.
The big issue today motivating Republicans is ending birth right citizenship.
In Chicago today the sky is all cloudy not from storms but from Canadian forest fires. In Texas the pavement is melting and you have to wonder how long before the gulf starts to boil. Elsewhere conditions have gotten so bad people are fleeing their homes in mass.
I mean the North American continent is literally on fire and all these expletive deleted can do is hate their fellow citizens.
I am out of words.
Better idea—Give the red states their share of the monies, but loudly and frequently tell them that they’re getting the money despite the fact that their Representative/Senators voted against the legislation.
Point out, too, that Democrats do this because they aren’t vindictive assholes like Republicans are, and won’t punish them for electing lying idiots to represent them.
Better yet, don’t give any money to states or districts whose representatives voted against it.
Enough of the red welfare states mooching off the blue states.
I find it even more appalling that the people who vote R know this, and c’mon most do know how shameless their congressmen are, and yet the still check that box with an R next to a name just to stick it to someone else.
This would seem to be reason for a massive letter writing (email, text, phone call, etc) campaign to all the local news outlets. Have each state and local Democratic Party get their voters to complain to the local media about Senator So & So and Representative Thus & Such lying about “bringing this funding” into the area. Insist that the media emphasize that the Rep and Sen each voted against the money, and now the frauds are trying to get credit.
A statement by the party isn’t bad, but hordes and heaps of correspondence from readers and viewers is something else entirely.
Tommy Tuberville is holding up around 250 military promotions. His way of making us unprepared.
If it all happens on Twitter, does it even make a sound?
Proving that the GOP is anti-military.
