Is it really? “88” is a neo nazi white supremacy dog whistle. So that actually does count for something.
The ban is on oil and gas shipped by boat. Pipelines to various countries aren’t effected.
Yeah, it’s a freaking grand jury subpoena.. But he’s just arrogant and ignorant enough to roll the dice.
Moar popcorn!
There probably isn’t enough support for it on the R side, but raising the age limit to legally purchase a long gun to 21 might have stopped those shootings. Not guaranteed, because a relative or friend might have the gun, and it would be more expensive on the black market. But this really should be part of the package.
I still think the collective choice of the Democratic primary electorate—to elect an obviously passed-his-prime gutless middle of the road guy as President—was likely the right one. I voted for Liz in the primary but knew it was a protest. We need to appeal to the median voter, and the median voter is an uninformed schmuck. But geez, talking nice to McConnell really brings it home. We need the filet minion and we’re taking a hot dog. Beats the shit sandwich, but this country is fucked.
Different ballgame also for Germany as pensioners freezing to death in their apartments this winter either because they can’t afford the heating or the gas is totally turned off will make for some rather nasty headlines.
It’s not just academic and a little hit in the wallet, certain areas could literally be humanitarian disasters if things go wrong here.
These steps will still help keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them, and are actions supported by 85%+ of Americans.
Republicans are the ones who, when faced with a proposal for any sensible gun safety regulations, reply with “Well, it wouldn’t have stopped (insert mass shooting here)!” which they then use as a red herring to avoid any meaningful action. Let’s not follow their lead…
Yeah. But we will still get all of the “no one is doing a goddamn thing nothing is happening “ handwringing.
seven “business days” to think about it.
(which I would do if I were one of these people )
Agree, and we’ll see what comes out. On the limited stuff I’ve seen, wouldn’t get hopes up that the Dems will even table something that is more than window dressing, let alone getting any Republicans to go with it.
Brilliant!
A Federal Grand Jury?
I was reliably told that Merrick Garland was doing nothing. I don’t understand.
The committee may or may not refer these jamokes to DoJ (I hope they do), but at this point, their non-appearance can and will be used as confirmation of the piles of evidence gathered elsewhere. And there’s no court they can go crying to that can prevent that. Meanwhile, I suspect Navarro is only the first of the bunch to face a grand jury. One of our lawyerly types will correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure those subpoenas are not negotiable.
OT. Someone agrees that taking abortion rights for granted was the cause that they will be lost.
Authoritarian movements need the masses to feel angst, suspicion and confusion about their futures and their security. Any regime in power that is opposed to that authoritarian movement taking over the reins of government must be portrayed as the cause of all those fears and suspicions, and a threat to the public’s future and security. Perversely, rampant gun violence serves the purposes of the GOP. Ending it is to their detriment.
…then I guess the mandatory background checks aren’t comprehensive enough. Any criminal record checks of anyone under 18 just can’t happen because it’s juvie. An age limit of 21 would have worked in both Uvalde and Buffalo.
A ban on military style weapons would also have helped.
Just putting this article from Deutsche Welle in here…
ETA: the German government is also taking active measures to reduce consumption in other ways:
Navarro claims that he plans to try to block the subpoena by filing a lawsuit against the House Jan. 6 Committee, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Matthew M. Graves, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.
Not sure how that works. The subpoena didn’t come from either of the first two, and I doubt it’s very easy to fight back against a DoJ subpoena.
I hope he does hire a team of very expensive lawyers to help him with this. I doubt he’ll get any financial help from TMFWWNBN or his Qcumber friends. Which may be why he’s representing himself in the first place.
Navarro subpoenaed by a Federal Grand Jury.
This is new and different. Let’s see him ignore this one
Gun reform is being taken up ostensibly now in response to the recent mass shootings.
I don’t see how it’s Republican or Democratic to expect that the legislation address something about the shootings.
