Derek Chauvin’s trial will start with jury selection on March 8th. Less than a month away. This story was in the Star Tribune today:
Actually watching those videos is very hard to watch! Seeing these selfish ass middle to upper income earners barbaric behavior by attacking our Capitol in the most vile manner.
I worked in the Senate in the 1980s. This was before 9/11 so you could pretty much walk anywhere including through the Capitol to get from the Senate side to the House side. Those hallways and spaces are embedded in my head and seeing that footage today was almost traumatic to me. It was reassuring to see that those spaces have not physically changed in 40 years but horrifying to see those seditionists walking through them so smugly and so cruelly.
And POTUS is working, not tweeting. Imagine that.
Do 90% of all the stupid, selfish conspiracy theorists in the world happen to live in America? Asking for a friend.
“We removed this account for repeatedly sharing debunked claims about the coronavirus or vaccines,” a spokesperson for Facebook, which owns Instagram, said in a statement.
I love all the comments above. I feel it all just as strongly.
But to throw a wet blanket…how many people saw any campaigns that ran against a RW Senator, that hung last year’s impeachment around their necks? How many RW Senators got a big face-full of their treacherous, contemptuous, deliberate miscarriage of the 1st impeachment played on endless loop before the 2020 election? Why wasn’t there a national effort to befoul these officials in all those Red States, and remind all voters of what their sitting Senator did?
And why do we think any of THAT stink is ever going to come back at these guys in 2 or 4 years because of this vote?
I reject the term “fellow Americans”.
I think it was Swalwell, and what a great point, that Chump was flooding the RW Qcumbersphere with ads on all kinds of platforms, and they were all paid up - but set to end on Jan 5.
I was struck today by how much the “running member of Congress” videos (complete with police directing members to safety) looked remarkably like school shooting videos.
I live with some anxiety, while watching MSNBC’s coverage, that someone will have booked Michael Moore to explain it all to us.
Well, they did say they didn’t want to call any witnesses, as far as the GOP were concerned.
RW Congressional Running Dogs
So he is loyal to Trump and not the base. That makes no sense.
It is called an “I don’t give a shit” political mentality, just like Trump, which has become epidemic among most, perhaps all RepubliQuons.
Can we shorthand that to doing a ‘Hawley’?
Now imagine watching the same footage, only you’re the guy who absolutely has the power to stop it, and you do nothing. NOTHING.
Absolutely.
Remember how often over the past 4 years, but most particularly over the past year or two we have all shaken our heads at the lying bullshit from variety of sources, but have understood it was all for “an audience of one”?
In this case, the audience is the 10% or 15% or 20% of moderate conservatives or independents who are uncomfortable with Trump and his rhetoric and actions, but aren’t quite sure that Trump is guilty enough or that what he has done is bad enough to rate a conviction – people who are still open to persuasion.
The hardliners will never change – they are the “my mind is made up, don’t confuse me with the facts” crowd. They could stand right next to him in Times Square and watch him gun down innocent people and still root for him. Forget them.
But there are some who will see this, and who will watch all of the stuff that will be coming out in the next 6-12 months, including the NY State indictments, a less politically redacted Mueller report, news of finances and other things. Even stuff like Junior and the Magically Disappearing Inauguration Money investigation going on in DC.
As long as this plants a seed of doubt in the 10-15-20% which will germinate over time, it’ll have big repercussions down the road.
And we know the GQPers know it too — just looking at the 160+ state-level initiatives to block voting rights in red states tells us loudly and clearly that they know if they don’t cheat, they’re going to lose. Because they will lose more support over the coming months.
This is the beginning of the end and they are cornered, trying to claw their way out.
I read Charles Pierce this morning and he called the Trumpers a hunting party:
> The evidence is now undeniable. What we saw on Wednesday was the definitive proof that what broke into the Capitol last month was a hunting party. They came to kill people. “Hang Mike Pence” was not a metaphor. Hearing the hunters caroling, “Nannnnnn-cy? Nannnnnnnn-cy?” in that horror-movie sing-song was to hear the trilling of murderous intent. They came to the Capitol to kill people.
Just think what would’ve happened if they had been a little faster in getting onto the Senate and House floors. They damn near succeeded in turning this country into something other than a democracy.
Thank FSM there were some Eugene Goodmans there.
That man deserves the highest (unbesmirched) award we can give him. A genuine hero. Especially when he placed himself in harm’s way with just a damned little baton to protect himself.
I gotta believe that Karma is coming for Hawley and Cruz and all the other Hitler Youth one day. It’s gonna happen.
