Her whiny speech was awful. Not a Margaret Chase Smith moment for sure. The tax cut vote prior was worse in my opinion, and then she followed it all up with the impeachment debacle. I am proud to have never voted for her, but I did like Olympia Snowe.

Come to Maine and watch the pathetic campaign effort Sara Gideon is putting forth before you dance on Susan Collins’ grave. Gideon is doing her level best to throw away what was a very winnable race.

With Collins’ long career, careful constituent service and previous history of attracting large majorities of the vote, the prospect of Gideon beating her is by no means a certainty.

Attack Collins on her record, for one. Tie her to Trump over and over and over. His approval is something like 35% here. Collins’ ads don’t even mention she’s a Republican, much less anything about Trump. She focuses on being “independent” and “bipartisan”. Gideon is spending her ad time talking about insulin, how she made legislators sit with each other in the statehouse and defending herself against allegations she enabled a pedophile. Weak, weak sauce.

Unless you are from Maine you have no idea how deeply entrenched she is here. She won with nearly 70% of the vote in 2014. That is an enormous amount of support for any opponent to peel off, and Gideon is flailing at it right now.
