Mueller On Stone’s Commutation | Talking Points Memo

Yes, and he’s not using double negatives this time.

Seems to me that one of the things that will outlast trump is this strange extreme shortening of the average news cycle. Now major events pass by in half a day. I mean things on the order of Watergate. The story of Russian GRU agents putting bounties on our troops in Afghanistan and trump’ traitorous response or lack of response is gone. No coverage. The pandemic story is the only long term story anyone is paying attention to and it’s the most important happening in 100 years.

Trump didn’t Xi this coming.

bingo

And it’s the nature of the person talking that has some import.

Put another way, after all that has been said (with good reason) about Mueller (before, during and after the Barr rat-fuck), Mueller is the type of institutionalist one would want to be among the same types of blokes hovering around the Lincoln Project mentality.

If Biden wins let’s hope Congress and the new AG are in a vindictive mood toward trump and all his minions.

The American people deserve a little justice, considering all the shit these criminals have put us through all these years. .

“Mueller argued that the work of the special counsel’s office during his tenure ‘should speak for itself.’”

The problem with this is his work hasn’t spoken for itself. Barr, Trump, Hannity, and Pucker have been speaking non-stop for months about it and have created a false narrative that could have been nipped in the bud if Mueller aggressively had defended the integrity of his work and the men and women who staffed his office from the outset.

And essentially calling Trump a “lier”.

I saw that his dim nephew, George P. Bush continues to stand by tRump, come hell or high water. These Bushies have never been too bright. The tradition continues…
I saw this on George P.'s Wikipedia page:

In June 2020, amid reports that George W. Bush and Jeb Bush would not support Trump’s re-election, George P. Bush announced his full support for Trump, saying “Trump is the only thing standing between America and socialism.” The younger Bush supported Trump in 2016, and Trump supported Bush in his re-election for land commissioner in 2018.

Good luck, Texas. I do hope most Texans get it this time that good governance begins at home and vote these morons out if they really do want to stay alive and have decent pols leading the effort to do what’s in the public health interests.

But Mueller may well have been the gateway to getting rid of this guy.

Think of the implications of that:

Less loss of standing in the world.
Fewer dead victims and live patients of this virus.
No discussions of whether to re-open the economy, the schools, businesses.
No evictions of low-income families due to inability to pay the rent.
No compromising of the health care system.

The path we should be on might well have been affected by a different reality of the outcome of Mueller’s report. It’s like we’re in an alternate universe the likes of which this country has never seen (despite Trump’s claim that Obama’s management of H1N1 and Bush’s management of AIDS was exponentially worse than Trump’s handling of the virus).

I don’t want to re-litigate Mueller’s performance either. But there is no denying that he dropped the ball in the worst possible way, leading Trump to believe he was exonerated for all he was accused of and allowed him to go on to bring us to where we are now.

No, Mueller isn’t exclusively responsible for this, but (as I wrote above) history will put Mueller squarely in the quadrant of responsibility for not disrupting the path we’re now on.

When, not if.

Either am I.
This is the significant part of what he’s doing now and should not be diminished.
Especially when you consider how reticent he has been.

Fair points, but even if Trump got booted, we’d still have Q-Tip. Not sure we’d be any better off?

Exactly in Politics it doesn’t matter who lays the biggest egg, instead who cackles it louder.

You may be on to something here but at least part of the diminished significance is that Trump’s bad actions are getting subsumed in his general loss of power and control. We know he’s bad and does bad things. That’s old news. But it’s getting to where it might not matter soon.

He better be or many, many people will be enraged from the get go, and it will be a TERRIBLE way to start his tenure. Let’s hope he learned from Obama’s lack of criminal action on the banks.

Mueller allowed Barr to lie about him and his project. He played the part of the good soldier for the benefit of people who have not the slightest iota of honor and duty of service and not one cubic millimeter of courage.

Agreed, but that’s a road not taken.

I know that, while he was governor of Indiana, he was fairly clueless about the AIDS epidemic. But I also know that Q-tip doesn’t suffer from NPD. I also feel that he might listen to advisors.

I am not sure how much worse off we could be with Pence over Trump. We’re pretty much heading toward the bottom already.

Nope, it didn’t. You had your chance to spell it out for the country. So, yeah…coming out now to support your team and all those that helped you in this investigation…not good enough imo. In fact, its probably pretty cold comfort to all them as well now, considering most have been let go, demoted or had the entire DoJ reduced to serving as tRump’s private law firm under Barr.

We all had such high hopes for you, for our country. You were supposed to be the uncompromising, non-partisan truth-teller with all your background as a true patriot. From what I saw before Congress, you could have phoned it in. So little effort to illuminate, educate and inform the public was all I ended up seeing. All you wanted to do was retire as quickly as you could as soon as it all ended. So, whatever. Write your op-eds but spare us. You’re too late to make any kind of difference.

You did not take your shot. You threw it away.
