Every one of his dollars.
Enough already with the oligarchs who want to buy the presidency–Steyer was more than enough. On the other hand, now Tom has somebody he can talk to.
Now this is what real class warfare looks like in this country. He’s only joining to trash the left in the debates and set up Trump for a victory.
In the end, even the ‘liberal’ billionaires would rather ensure a Trump victory, keep brown kids in cages, trash the rule of law, break up our international relationships, loose the courts, and all the other things just for their fucking tax cuts.
Just like with Howard Schultz this is the 1% country club set saying ‘shame if something would happen to your democracy if we aren’t left alone on top with all our money’
“But he’s not a Real Democrat!”
(I’m frankly surprised I haven’t heard anyone make that argument yet…)
Because we don’t have enough old white guys. (Says an old white guy.)
I’m sure Bloomberg really, really wants Trump gone. And he’s not necessarily wrong to believe that Warren and Sanders are too doctrinaire and Biden too unreliable in his performance to be certain of defeating the Orange Excrescence. I think he’s wrong to believe that he’s the one to take on Trump, but let’s not give into lazy-mindedness by simply assuming that all rich people are evil.
No, no, no. That’s not Stooge, it’s Scrooge!
As though we want another NY millionaire. Time for the Midwest, Intermountain West or Far West to have a President. And more representation on the SCOTUS, while we’re at it.
A disqualifier for me.
Yes. Democrats need to recognize that a substantial portion of 80+ year olds (more than 20%, I believe) experience sudden mental decline. My fear about Joe and Bernie (though somehow I feel it’s less likely to be him) is that in office they might be one of that group. And, no, electing a vigorous young VP won’t help. The president in decline will not admit it–indeed, that’s part of the condition. So we’ll be left adrift while we sort it out with a 25th Amendment that is better than nothing, but not all that much better.
(Trump, of course, shows that sudden mental decline can strike well before 80.)
I think Bloomberg has given a lot of money to support gun control. And that may have helped in VA.
What a nice thing to read with my first cup of tea before work.
That only applies to Sanders by those who suddenly get an extreme case of party loyalty when his name comes up.
Well, they were both mayors, but Bloomberg’s city was a little bigger.
Plus Bloomberg is a successful business executive whereas Sanders has been mostly a legislator, only one among many. (He hasn’t even been Secretary of State.)
Sanders says Wall Street has too much political power whereas Bloomberg is Wall Street.
Plus Bloomberg has a knighthood whereas Sanders is … quixotic.
But here’s the clincher: In 2016, Bloomberg eventually decided not to seek the Democratic nomination.
“But he’s not a Real Democrat!”
He was – until he switched in 2001 in order to run for Mayor.
And then he left the Republican Party.
His registration has been a matter of pragmatics.
FFS
Don"t
I’ll vote for Biden, Warren, Etc…
I’ll vote for the Democratic nominee
He was elected NYC mayor as a Republican. Twice. (And then once as an “Independent”.)
His commitment to party goals is non-existent.
Feels like the socially liberal/economically conservative billionaires of Wall Street, who fear the Sanders/Warren pair, and who were hoping for a Biden candidacy, are panicking.
