MI Legislature Buildings Shut Down For Electoral College Vote Due To ‘Credible Threats’

Yes can we please see some sort of repudiation of these motherfuckers in the US House too? It’s needed.

Short version here:

“Incumbent Vice President” here is Pence, of course.

Yes, there are statutes that say what is to happen when there is disagreement.

Steve and Ms. Ocasio are both overrated. One gave us Sarah Palin and the other backed Bernie Sanders.

You know what’s “bad judgement” Shirky? Flying to DC at the behest of an ousted president who wants you to disfranchise your entire state. And then staying in that person’s hotel.

If these people actually knew what dictatorship was they would not be doing this, because it undermines our Republic. And, to make it worse, they know it won’t work anyway and they’re doing it to satisfy the Right.

You could have stopped right there, you know. :smirk:

Another part of Defund the Police had to do with having social workers available, instead of always sending in the police. I know in our (and other) departments, that would be welcome.

I listen to the police scanner some evenings (go to Broadcastify.com and see if your local dept. is on there, fascinating stuff sometimes). Last night, in the span of a few hours, there were at least four calls to the police because someone was suicidal. The caller might be a friend or family member who got a call or text, the Suicide Prevention Hotline or it might be the individual themself.

A call is usually made by dispatch to Crisis Intervention, in case the person needs to be “chaptered” (involuntarily committed). Crisis Intervention will not respond first. They wait for the police to go in and deal with the individual (and whoever else might be with them). For the majority of those calls, the dispatch can only tell the officers (and they always send at least two) “unknown intox, unknown weapons”. They are truly going in blind.

And while we’ve all heard of the call where someone calls for help and their loved one ends up killed by the police, those seem to be horrific outliers based on what I hear over and over again, at least here.

One more time—Steve Schmidt most emphatically did not select Palin as McCain’s running mate.
That was McCain himself, at the urging of Bill Kristol and others—not including Schmidt.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez still backs Bernie Sanders, and while she has some decent political chops, she is still far from achieving anything except media notoriety.

Nah, I think some of them would be fine with a dictatorship where they were members of the ruling party. (It’s like all the people who were somebody rich, famous or interesting in a past life.)

House Speaker Lee Chatfield, R-Levering, denounced threats made against Electoral College members in announcing the decision to pull Eisen from his committee assignments.

“We have been consistent in our position on issues of violence and intimidation in politics — it is never appropriate and never acceptable. That is true of threats or suggestions of violence against Gov. Whitmer, Secretary Benson, Rep. Johnson and others on the Oversight committee, Republicans, Democrats, and members of the Electoral College. That applies to threats made toward public officials, and it must also apply when the public officials open the door to violent behavior and refuse to condemn it. We must do better," Chatfield said in a statement Monday morning.

“We as elected officials must be clear that violence has no place in our democratic process. We must be held to a higher standard. Because of that, Rep. Eisen has been removed from his committee assignments for the rest of the term.”

New term beginson the second Wednesday of January every year at noon. Still, I’m glad they took a stand here.

They know exactly what it is—which is why they’re behaving as they are.

Power is one hell of a drug.

If the electors are voting from home, and the wording for state electors is that the “convene”, is/was the plan to declare the vote invalid and nominate their own slate of electors?
