MI Legislature Buildings Shut Down For Electoral College Vote Due To ‘Credible Threats’

Due to safety concerns, the Michigan state legislature’s office buildings will be closed as the state’s 16 electors cast their Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden in the Capitol on Monday.

From these guys? Probably.

(I’d apologize for the image, except it’s too damned close to the truth to suppress, even for reasons of bad taste…)

ETA: I was born within sight of the MI State Capitol, and am nauseated by the stuff that is going on there right now.

So why, in the season of COVID and with the amount of harassment that’s been going on, is this session not held via Zoom or some other on-line platform? Is there some rule that says this all has to be done in person?

Why would we desire to compromise the electors in either season? This doesn’t make sense.

Only the finest people.. I am ashamed of these denizens of my former home state. I have family that actually believe the election was stolen. No way can I go forward with these people and ‘agree to disagree’. Thank goodness the good people of MI outweigh the freaking crazies.

And those sane ones of us in MI are appalled and ashamed of these maroons.

Lawmakers and staff will be working from home instead, according to spokespeople for state leadership.

So Republican observers won’t be allowed to watch electors cast their ballots? FRAUD!!!

I have a friend who works in Lansing, he walks over to the Capitol when the RWNJ’s gather just to people watch. He describes the crowds as people who “you don’t know where they come from, wonder where they live.” Lots of guns, very few masks.

I asked him yesterday what the odds were that shots get fired today when the EC gathers. He did not dismiss it out of hand. I told him I was tempted to go there with a big sign with Joe’s picture on it - he promptly dissuaded me.

He also said it would be “heavily watched.” All I can say is I hope there are pictures being taken, and evidence gathered, and I hope the legal system is brought to bear on these crazies. I don’t know why Michigan’s crazies seem crazier than the normal crazy, but they have their due coming to them. I hope it does.

And I hope Lansing isn’t the Fort Sumpter that turns our Cold Civil War into a hot one.

I have a friend, Republican but on the “saner” side, who was telling me he had to unfriend a number of family members because they have drank too much cool-aid. It’s just crazy, and again, it seems to run very deep in MI. Sigh…

Don’t we need DNA tests done by a Republican lab to ensure the electors are who they are supposed to be? If not, clearly there’s fraud!
I hope the electors are provided with the security they need. When someone signs up for that job, it’s typically considered an honor, not a death-defying act of courage.

Sedition, quite possibly crossing into open rebellion. But the governor can’t call out the national guard without knowing which units are clean.

Sort of like an empathetic, gentle pedophile I guess. Or a courteous ax murderer.

Son in law’s dad was head of ground munitions for the National Guard in CT. He was in that position on 9/11 - called both his sons and told them it was about to get bad, shortly after the plane crashes.

The MI governor needs to ensure, first, that those in similar positions(s) are also clean, and then insist they do a sweep of their commands and get rid of the problem children. Sorry, but this is too important to not deal with. All the States should be doing similarly.

By saner I mean he did not vote for Trump this time. Or so he claims, I do believe him.

In Michigan, probably none. Across the country, probably less than half.

Ah…threats made with regard to a basic function of American democracy…sounds like a healthy system, indeed. Sounds like Michigan is just full of patriots, or something.

Sort of like copping to being a member of the KKK, but you kinda think the whole lynching bit is taking things too far.

Michigan legislature is controlled by Republicans.
Maybe they know something is coming.
In any case, not very brave of them to abandon the Electors to their fates.

They’re full of it, alright - if my son and his wife didn’t live there, themselves, I might be more explicit.
