150 days working? You’re being generous. This version of the House gets 18 weeks away. And the weeks they are in town average around 3days of actual session time. Leaders tend to work harder. Back benchers not so much. What other job let’s the employee write their salary, vacation, benefits etc?? And to me the kicker is the last week of July to almost mid-sept is vacation time (read donor schmoozing)

I imagine every time the Federalist Society sends over a list of people to nominate to various federal judgeships there’s some paperwork he has to sign. So he’s got to get out of bed and put pants on and so forth, unless he doesn’t bother to do even that, but if you’ve ever settled on a house you know repeated name-signing can be quite tedious. And then he occasionally shows up in meetings if he feels like doing some pointless yammering for the cameras. He’s definitely got to get dressed for that. No other president was innovative enough to sit around on his ass most of the day and call it “executive time,” so there’s that. I may think of other things. And that’s what he’s accomplished.

With the median household net worth now at about $100,000, a single serious illness can impoverish a family.

Per diems are for travel. When I worked in Gov I got therm when I traveled. The term per diem is understood to be compensation when you travel for your job. Right now I think it’s about 50 bucks for lower GS grades and I have no idea what a House member gets. Add the fact they’re in Paris for a “study session” , flew there business class for zilch and get money to eat and drink in a bistro who cares what you call it. I was in Paris a few months ago. 7 days cost me over 5K.
If a member of US government, including a Congressional one goes TDY they get housing allowances. ( That according to my US Rep ) but they do not get a housing adjustment for marinating two homes. One is DC and one where they’re from. Some do finagle “remodeling costs” though. Given they get 174K a year and essentially pay zilch in living costs I think paying their rent isn’t much of an imposition.
Meadows will draw 139K for life. He’ll get his TSP funded for life. He’ll have access to most of the bennies active members have. The gym etc. He’ll have 100% sooper dooper healthcare for himself and his family. And more.
And just what has he done for all that? Even worse WTF did Yoho ever do?
