Woodward got what he wanted, which was more attention for his book and proof that his willingness to credulously report whatever anonymous sources tell him while omitting anything that might ruin the controversy it could create, to the point of studiously avoiding any attempt to even research such facts, gives him a form of power.
Their government is a problem that we’ll have to deal with one of these days. Just a question of when and how bad it’ll be when we finally do.
But… bipartisanship!

Exactly. Gen. Milley should have begun the processes that are outlined in the 25th Amendment. Then he should have waited while the LEGAL process either worked its way through the system, with its polling of each and every Cabinet member (and the Supreme Court ruling, one by one, if “unconfirmed” Cabinet heads were even eligible to participate) and also VP Mike Pence.
If the eligible Cabinet heads and Pence decided the President was unable to carry out his duties – would that have even included control of the nukes?? again, bring in the Supremes – they would then be permitted to notify the Speaker and Mitch McConnell. If they got that far, that’s where it would die.
As might tens of millions of Chinese and Americans. But we must follow the rules! ALL of the rules!
As I understand it, Milley also discussed his actions with the Acting Sec of Defense. But let’s not give him any credit for that.

That is one of the key points that separates today’s RW faux-republicans from the old school republicans (e.g., those who believe the party and ideology are secondary to the Constitution). It isn’t clear what holds these folk’s loyalty these days, beyond pure devotion to power and money.

I hope she enjoys her work…no…not any “gotcha” business, nor any self-righteous stuff…but the idea of being a highly competent part of a damn good team.

Yup. Rules and norms apply only when there’s an agreement by all sides that there are rules and norms. That ship sailed over the edge of the earth a while ago.
In grade school there was a mouthy bully girl who liked to harass people. One day we were playing some game involving a ball and she tripped a kid. We objected, to which she replied “We should get rid of rules! I vote for there being no rules.” So we said OK, and another kid promptly put the ball in play and punched her in the mouth. The GOP wants there to be one-way rules. A lot more punching in the mouth needs to happen.
