Kinzinger Knocks GOP Calls To ‘Harden’ Schools After Texas Shooting

My beloved half-brother killed himself with a gun just over 7 years ago. After attacking his estranged wife, he drove to the parking lot of the church where he was a minister and shot himself in his car. The funeral enraged me because most of the speakers essentially said, “If his faith had been stronger, he wouldn’t have done any of these things.” Really? You don’t think that allowing gun purchases to a man going through a bitter divorce, who was prone to depression, might have had a little something to do with it?

Please accept my utterly inadequate yet heartfelt condolences. This is horrific and tragic for everyone.

If this scenario were to happen Abbott as an individual would go after the manufacturers, and sign legislation that from now on arbitration would be the only way to settle these kinds of problems.

Just got a chance to watch the 30 for 30 on Oscar Pistorius and one of the things the prosecutor did was show a video of him shooting at a range at watermelons to show the type of damage the bullets were capable of. And it shocked everyone in the courtroom. Maybe something like this would in and ad would wake people up to what happens to a person when shot with these types of guns.

Remember that under Shrub press weren’t allowed a Dover Air Force Base. I think it was Dover where the dead arrived back in the states.
I also know that it wasn’t reported on, or reported on widely that Obama would regularly make trips to Dover to meet with the families. When it was released the right went after him.

That’s brilliant

“A well regulated Militia” An organization with a system of hierarchy and rules and obviously there for the security of the state. Not to overthrow it.
It does not say “right of people to keep…” it says “the people”. Note that is how the document begins - sovereignty is everybody as a single whole.
And “arms” is critical. Using Alito style, this would severely limit this to the 18th century meaning. Or if “arms” has a broader meaning, I, as a chemist could make all kinds of things that are presently illegal. This is key to banning assault rifles along with pipe bombs.

He lays out the history very clearly. The history indicates that common sense gun regulations, appropriate to the era in which they were written, have been adopted throughout the life of our country – up until the end of the Civil War, after which white fear of the black population contributed to a loosening of those regulations.

It was on CNN last year. It’s an excellent overview of how the presidency and the arts particularly musicians worked well together for the common good.

We might just have to split him down the middle and stuff his spine and giblets into his body cavity in case we want to make soup or Tercruzen (spine and giblets stuffed into a Cruz stuffed into a turkey).

Another turkey, you mean.

Gives away my age, but I remember hiding under my seat - for any nearby nuclear blast.

I have to say the consequences were not that severe to me probably because the scale of this is still beyond imagining. Getting shot is something that could be imagined.

I went through nuclear drills as well. The threat was hypothetical, in contrast to all the school massacres happening these days.

We’ve got our “well-regulated militia.” We call it “The National Guard.” We don’t need a bunch of loose cannon, cowboy yahoos waving their guns around.

Repeal the 2nd.

Also, claymore mines in the lockers. Can’t take any chances.

Hey, there was a time right after MLK and RFK’s assassinations that even Charlton “Cold Dead Fingers” Heston was pushing for controls on the sale of guns.

I hate to rain on this, but my opinion is that very few people today know who Jesus really was. Ask yourself - what was the first thing he did when he finally got to Jerusalem? Something about busting up the goings on at the temple?

Their real proposal is to harden hearts. Kids will keep dying. Just get over it.

The right wing hypocrisy always amazes me. It’s as though they are always thinking up new ways to embarrass themselves on the national stage.

If they want to blame the shootings on mental health issues, fine. Then address that problem directly. Fund mental health activities. Make purchasing a gun depend on being assessed as sane and stable (there’s the rub, am I right?). DO SOMETHING. Don’t just puke stupid shit out of your mouth to distract from the issue.
