Longer answer: An army based mostly on conscripts is a really bad fit for modern high-tech warfare that requires extensive training. Sounds like they’re running short on soldiers who know how to handle anything more sophisticated than a Kalashnikov.

I’ve been think about this these past couple of days, How many police officers did it take to try and keep the J6th rioters out of the Capital? Why not have Congress show us this hardening that Republicans want.

Fund mental health for other reasons, not this one. An NPR report a couple days ago indicated that only something like 5% of violent acts are committed by people with bipolar, schizophrenia or other mental illness.
The shooters in Buffalo and Uvalde were guys from troubled backgrounds, but there are guys like that all over the world who don’t shoot up schools. There is only one reason it happens here, and that’s access to guns. The GOP consistently tries to swing the spotlight over to mental illness every time this happens, and we need to stop buying into it.
We do a terrible job dealing with mental health in this country and it needs to be funded better and more creatively. But not for this reason. It shouldn’t even be part of the conversation. The problem is guns.

“Well regulated” being the salient words. Even the Marines control guns in barracks. Even personal weapons must be stored securely locked away. To me the amendment means The National Guard along the Swiss model where citizens are organized to defend the country. It does not mean crazed yahoos in camo waving their fetish AK’s around looking to machine gun Black or Hispanic people or folk presumed to be Antifa. The first Amendment does not mean all guns for anybody anywhere any time. Well regulated is what it says.

Well, not JUST this one. Yes, mental health issues are one of those things that Americans seem incapable of addressing constructively.
Let me point out that I’m not the one who brought mental health issues up as an explanation for slaughtering school children. The gops did. And they are the same group who refuse to fund and address those same mental health issues or allow them to interfere with the purchase of a firearm.
But just like everything else in the Constitution, and even the Bible, things are re-written and interpreted to fit a narrative, regardless of what these documents actually say.
Not everything is open to interpretation (originalists or otherwise).
