It All Comes Down To This: Days Left To Preserve American Democracy | Talking Points Memo

Well, time for me to give the furry critter his carrot treats and head out to the library to pick up my books that have been on hold and lay hay mulch on my tender perennials. Have a good day folks. Be back in three tRump scandals from now…two if I’m really motivated.

My first thought was Trump playing up his “Nobody Has Ever Done More for the Black Community” cred.

I’m worried about that too, but I believe Trump and the GOP are going to be the ones demanding that the counting continue and asking for recounts. He’s going to put SCOTUS and all these other judges in the position of having to reverse themselves days later. If that’s the case, Dems better use that as yet another justification for remaking the courts.

This is how fascism takes hold and it is appalling.

Biden campaign and the Travis County group Austin Young Democrats, among others, was canceled for “security reasons” after a group a pro-Trump group harassed their bus.

The intelligence professionals did their job inspite of trump and his insults. It is lucky they hadn’t been fired beforehand as trump is known to do. Odd that Pompeo would praise those who were involved in this since so much insulting verbage is sent their way by so many, including trump

The Guardian conjures up the scary scenario wherein Trump declares victory early in the evening when he is momentarily leading so that the contradictory result after the votes have been fully counted is viewed by the base and sadly many others as somehow illegitimate.

A Trump branded hearse following a bus with a Biden flag is too much for words. Death, it’s coming for you…

Re-posting from the ICYMI thread -

Why the fuck is Trump having a rally at 8:00 pm tonight in my hometown?

We’re a small town, and it’s Halloween! The kids will be trick-or-treating! Trick-or-treating is one of the fun things that these kids can do that is fun and easily lends itself to social distancing and wearing PPE, and Trump has chosen to fuck it up.

He must have been told already that he’s going to win this county. He’s such an ass.

Our local police department has been posting updates on social media about both trick-or-treating and the rally. They listed the banned items from the rally…which actually (in print) includes toasters! They also posted the following…

We have been asked to warn you about a bear that has been traveling through the Borough during the evening hours. It’s 2020 so why wouldn’t there be?

They’re already screwing with the ballots in Nevada, comparing signatures. We might as well be living in Paraguay (no offense to Paraguay). So much for “mail-in fraud.”

Exactly! I’m wondering, if the GOP is trailing on election night with some mail-in ballots left to count, will the Republicans will do some sort of back flip and demand that deadlines in various states be extended in a Hail Mary pass to gamble that remaining uncounted ballots might put them in the lead?

So what? He does not have the power to decide the election. He can make all the false claims (has he ever made any true claims?) he wants, it is not up to him. I don’t care if he concedes either, I just want Biden to get at least 270 electoral votes. Then it’s over…in January, anyhow.

However, three conservative justices signaled their eagerness to rule in Republicans’ favor and potentially throw out late-arriving ballots.

How is it constitutional to place someone’s constitutional right to vote contingent on someone else doing their job properly? And who has been caught red-handed deliberately sabotaging the system by which the rights to vote of millions of Americans depend? My constitutional right to vote is dependent on the whims of the Postmaster General and his fealty to the POTUS? And conservative justices on the SCOTUS are OK with this deliberate subversion of American democracy? Is this what the Federalists preach to each other in secret?

Just want to know why Texas law enforcement does nothing to stop the armed harassment in Texas. Why isn’t that a central question in this story?

Well … This certainly shows Red-Necked Texans living up to every Dumb Ass Stereotype in the eyes of the whole world! Good Lord these idiot Trumpsters look like the criminal pro-Putin thug-gangs that beat and killed people for marching for Democracy and Freedom !

not 100% sure … but because of the statements in this & other articles - do think that the bus that was being hassled & threatened was NOT Harris’s bus - but was a different campaigning bus with supporting Democratic politician on a different route - to different sites
… still absolutely 1000% hideous… and absolutely should have been curtailed …

…suspect (want to believe) that if it was the Harris bus … there would be a sizable U. S. Secret Service contingent - with back-up at the ready …& the first asshole to bang his jacked up pick-up into the side of the bus & wave a semi-automatic high powered weapon at the bus would be in deep life altering doo-doo
(by life altering I mean that the news articles would say - ‘the gunman’s and his passenger’s bodies were recovered from the bullet riddled wreckage of the truck’)
Trump has corrupted a lot of things but really want to doubt that local detachments of the Secret Service are just going to stand-down and overtly not do their duty to protect the person that they are sworn to protect

That whiplash change of position will be fun to watch. He thinks Dems are more likely to use mail-in ballots for fear of the pandemic, which will jam the system and result in days of post-election counting. Meanwhile he thinks his fearless supporters will march to the polls for in-person voting on election day. That’s why he’s been yelling about wanting the counts stopped on election night.

It’s going to be a laugh riot watching him scramble for those late counts, which aren’t going to help get him over the top anyway in the states he needs (fingers crossed, I’m really trying hard not to be too overconfident).

Some courts have already used the “people have other ways to vote” deflection to justify reversing efforts to expand drop off boxes and other enhancements. They’ll justify this by saying their vote would have counted it they had simply voted in person.

…or paid the required poll tax.

Same here. He only has four weeks to put together a court case, and he’ll need it to come down to just one state that could flip the entire election like Florida in Bush v. Gore. I seriously doubt that even this SCOTUS would flip the results in several different states to give him the win. And it looks like he’d need that, unless the polls are disastrously wrong.
