It All Comes Down To This: Days Left To Preserve American Democracy | Talking Points Memo

Iā€™m cautiously optimistic.

From Another Thread:

[I have been mentioning this for a while, but, hitherto, the Conventonal Wisdom has always had Dems beating Repubs in the early vote only to be caught-up by Repubs on Election Day.

This time, that cannot stand. Somehow, we must overpower them in voters on Election Day as well:

(1) For obvious reasons in terms of numbers

(2) Also to counter a major GOP tactic: to devalue and wreck VoteByMail votes by the Courts

(3) We outnumber the GOP. Even with the urgency present among Democrats, Conservatives tend to be very disciplined voters. But we must use our numerical advantage while we still have a Republic]

If 40+ percent of the electorate is willing to vote and die for their proud ignorant bigotry, weā€™re headed for a very rough ride even if the Dems take the White House and both houses of Congress.

But the alternative is still unthinkable. Let the ride begin!

Hey Texasā€¦You got yourself another fraudster running for reelection. Cornyn padded his resume way back. They just uncovered the bullshit lies he tried to sell the public when he originally ran for office. Put this in the category of another GOPer politician calling the kettle black. Just more assholery from this guy.

And this man was a Texas AG and became a fucking Texas Supreme Court judge after lying about this. Kinda makes me wonder how many of McConnellā€™s picks for lifetime appointments have either padded or lied about their resumes at this point as well.

What is the big win for the Special Forces that Trump is going to announce today?

Perhaps his announcement will involve some or other sort of successful operation against ā€œterroristsā€ of some sort, designed to garner support of voters on the metaphorical battlefield of the election. But this year, this president, I dunno. Maybe heā€™s going to announce a huge pay raise ā€“ if he wins! ā€“ in order to garner support of soldiers on the literal battlefield that he is going to provoke after he loses the election.

In the Year of the Four Emperors, the Praetorian Guard got three pay raises. Sweet.

They rescued a hostage in Nigeria or something. It was already public before trumpā€™s tweet.

OK, this is positively frightening and intended to be just that from all I can seeā€¦

I flew down to Texas to help with the Biden/Harris bus tour, intended to drum up enthusiasm at polling locations. Instead, I ended up spending the afternoon calling 911. 1/ pic.twitter.com/gKAjv7gv85

Get a load of this tweet. These tRumpers are beyond the pale. Becoming radicalized doesnā€™t begin to describe them. Theyā€™re behaving like tRumpā€™s brownshirts.

Iā€™m sure the ā€œbig surpriseā€ is letting their ballots count while others are tossed.

Yes, and his weird ā€œI ā€˜pre-paidā€™ my taxesā€ tweet this morning. Maybe another chapter from the NYT is dropping soon.

Same.

I was reading the headlines and I took a second to take in just how blatantly the GOP is trying to thwart both voting and counting the votes. Iā€™m not sure the general public was really aware of their efforts in the past. These days itā€™s so blatant that even very low information voters have probably heard about it. And yet all of these moves feel desperate and futile. Maybe theyā€™ll be able to salvage a few seats in down ballot races, maybe, but it just feels like a last desperate attempt of a wounded animal to save itself before dying. It all smacks of a kind of desperation you rarely see in politics.

A blue wave is certainly the goal. But it will have to be followed by indictments and convictions of the entire Trump Crime Family, and their enablers, at the state level, since you know Donnie will be issuing blanket pardons for anyone whoā€™s ever kissed his bigly orange ass.

Precisely, I think you hit the nail on the head. Itā€™s been bubbling under the surface and these depraved sonsofbitches know it.

Thereā€™s a pretty good chance that he didnā€™t know anything about any of it, including the initial hostage taking, before the rescue. If he had known that a rescue was imminent, he would have blabbed details during a rally. Iā€™m guessing that if he had even known about the hostage at all he would have used it as a boost for why we needed to keep him in office. They kept him in the dark about the whole thing.

This is good.

Those who didn't vote in 2016 are showing up early in droves ā€” and more are Democrats. https://t.co/fJEGlBcmWr
