Is Redistricting Actually Going Better For Democrats Than Expected?

They hated Trump, hopefully we can get him to run again in 2024.

“They” is me and many of my friends, neighbors and relatives. And lots of us are lifelong Dems. How come we never hear about all the white men, college or not who vote for Trump?

We hear alot about their “economy anxiety” and their “Lovefests”.

If you’re converting R+3 districts into R+20 districts to make sure you win, you’re definitely risking other districts, who are supplying all those additional R voters.

In 2016 anyway. I consider it a betrayal by my demographic.

As noted in Germany:

Corona waves will decrease in 2022, according to Jena infectiologist Mathias Pletz. “The waves will become flatter and flatter, even if new variants come along, because there is simply already a certain basic immunity,” said the director of the Institute for Infectious Medicine and Hospital Hygiene at Jena University Hospital. The basic problem with Corona, he said, was that the virus hit a population with no immunity at the beginning of the pandemic. “It was like throwing a match into a puddle of petrol.” Looking at the Omikron variant, an optimistic scenario now is that the mutant encounters a largely boosted population and the resulting courses are very mild, he said.

This really good news for the Democrats, who by and large are vaccinated. Throughout all of next year the public will be treated to free media reminders of failed GOP health policies.

Question: Is there really such a stupid person on the House Judiciary Committee? If this comment was made by a fourth grader interpreting a simple chart, it would have earned a solid F.

The two-week vanishing of Ron Desantis continues. Is he dead? Did something happen in the Epstein case?

I guess the plus side here is that the GOP has already “trimmed the sails” of the bad ship Gerrymander to the point that they really can’t harness any more wind than they currently have and the wind is changing direction (something they just can’t control), which will eventually force the ship in a new direction, whether they like it or not

They either tack in a new direction or they will be in irons. Either way is stiff head winds in the long term. Let’s hope the Dems can sail closer to the wind and overtake them.

I wish I could remember where I read it. I did have to read it twice because it sure didn’t make sense.

What laws are you thinking of that you claim are going unenforced? Laws that actually exist, mind you, not the ones that you think oughta be there.

Would you rather:

endure a 10-seat Republican majority of non-racist, non-crazy conservatives in the Romney tradition,
or
endure a 1-seat Republican majority of Gaetzes and Boeberts and Greenes?

And the part that makes me happiest is that, pace @txlawyer, California at least is doing it without the usual Sacramento fuckery, with a citizens’ committee delivering districts that, while hardly perfect, still reasonably well represent the actual electorate.

It turns out that just letting actual voter preferences matter, without putting a partisan thumb on the scale, does work in overall favor of democracy. And if you’re skeptical about that, just look at how furiously the other guys are fighting against it.

I think we will be past the worst of covid by the spring. So many people are giving in to the omicron inevitability and who can blame them? If you’ve had 3 shots you might feel like crap for a week but you will suffer at home in your own bed. The economy is going in the right direction, and jobs are on the increase. But time is of the essence. Need to register and GOTV and keep the messaging positive. We have some weeks of misery ahead, but this will pass. I am reservedly hopeful about next November.

I agree. At this point, COVID is solidly a pandemic of the unvaccinated. In the US, that means an epidemic among the anti-vaxxers (sadly, many parts of the world still simply don’t have access to effective vaccines). And we need to start being more vocal about the fact that their intransigence is not only costing billions but is the reason for the healthcare system being overwhelmed.

I don’t think it works like that. My Fox News Relations from New England are moving to Georgia, and thrilled to be in a warmer and Redder climate. Just a few people, but I know some Californians who moved to Texas and were also glad for the political change.

There are lots of GOP-bent Chicagoans who cross the Indiana border and increase their commute, but scratch their itch for lower taxes and more Republican neighbors. There are even billboards telling new comers to vote GOP so Indiana doesn’t become like the place they left.

I totally blame the unvaxxed for all of the pediatric ICU patients.

They’ll be in for a mighty big surprise. F’rinstance, are there any school-age children involved? If there are, they’re gonna get a rude awakening with the level and quality of education as contrasted to the schools in New England.

My best case dream scenario:
The democrats actually increase their House majority. And three Senate seats flip to the democrats thereby taking wind from the sails of Manchin and Sinema.
Hey, a guy can dream…
