God I miss him.
Is this The Onion?
I’m refusing to try to understand any of this story lest it cause an embolic stroke.
Speaking of perhaps-inappropriate times/place to invoke the memory of Tupac, I was reminded of this:
Here are some reports that have nothing to do with Tupac:
Me too but the music lives on
Sounds to me like an interview with Ari Melber is in order.
Thank god but it will live as long as people are listening to music, Tupac will live.
And Nas just dropped a new album. I had no idea he was going to do that and I’m so excited.
Weird story. However, if more 65-year-old white dudes were rap fans, I’m thinking we’d maybe be in a better place in this country.
Not because rap has more power than any other form of music to make the world better or anything, but because it is a largely ethnic genre - an expression of the culture of African Americans. And we all know that exposure to other cultures helps reduce prejudice (especially helpful for those naturally disposed to closed mindedness - like those on the right - though helpful to all of us because, as we also know, we all have our hidden/subtle biases). So maybe there’d be fewer old white dudes getting fired up by the GOP’s racism.
Exposing white boomers to rap may be a path forward, in the sense that anything’s possible, but I think the lesson here is more that it’s really helpful to understand how much and in what ways you’re an oddball, and try to downplay that in work and other situations where people may not be entirely tolerant of it. You have to look around, take note of all the things other people aren’t doing, and then not do those things.
@loss-mentality - I happen to agree but you really have to listen. If you do and you listen with an open mind you can begin to understand a little bit about being black in America.
Plus it’s the most original genre ever and to quote: hip hop isn’t rock and roll, hip hop goes right to your soul.
If you’ll let it.
Only if those dictators are black…
You said it
I might suggest we do this more often. Will help us cope with the rest of Trump’s time in office.
Guy has dedicated his life to Iowa children and families (check this for the impressive 411: https://governor.iowa.gov/2017/06/gov-reynolds-appoints-jerry-foxhoven-as-director-of-iowa-department-of-human-services, ), his love of Tupac goes back 23 years and has always been regarded fondly as an eccentricity and and his emails are really nice and he resigns over this? Nope.
Public servants like this guy, a person whose career is dedicated to defending the rights of the most vulnerable, do not roll over and walk away from a fight. I know people like him. He crossed the wrong person- that is my guess.
Kim Reynolds needed a break from all the bad press about her privatized Medicaid system abusing and killing people.
Aw thanks. Thanks so much.
and comments bot - fuck off and die - I’ll post responses as long as I want.
It’s Sarah Sanders’ new gig.
So, just as an experiment what if, instead of Tupac, Foxhoven had expressed a deep and abiding love for Jesus in staff emails and used bible quotes as motivational messages? Would the Repug Gov have fired him or given him a medal?
