The temporary 45 day CR passed the House and will pass the Senate punting the gov’t shutdown for another month. However, UKR funding was stripped. Now, the purpose of the op has been revealed. This budget crisis is being orchestrated by Trump to squeeze UKR funding out and to give Putin and Trump a chance in '24.
Dems seem to think a clean UKR bill will come to the floor of the House where it will pass, but I have doubts. I think the Trump-Gaetz caucus is going to move to oust McCarthy because they know he is nominally supportive of Ukraine and they don’t want that funding to get through. Dems should not help McCarthy unless he provides an ironclad commitment to get UKR funding through the House. The next GOP Speaker that succeeds McCarthy is almost guaranteed to be pro-Putin.
Definitely smells of corruption. Here’s a case where a maimed American is being denied compensation when it is our own arms that are being used to do the maiming.
People pulling for Walter White are doing so in part because he was a very sympathetic character at the beginning. He remained so even as he went deeper and deeper into the underworld. He turned into a monster himself, but was still fighting even worse monsters. Jesse was very much the same way. It was beguiling both with the plot and the characters. I’m a former chemist myself, also with some serious medical issues. I am one pending aortic valve replacement from bankruptcy. I don’t exactly identify, but I still couldn’t help but root for WW. For me too, there is a “there but for the grace of God go I” factor. @joelopines
Probably the worst most polluted bill to pass the House in my 74 years. It is sickening in its cuts to important things. Ukraine zero. Water safety cut from $325million to $60million. Food ssfety cut $125million to $30 million. That is as far as I could stand to read this crap of bill. I am amazed any democrats voted for it if they did.
I loved mostly everything about this show and especially those scenes where WW’s villains, Lydia, Gus and some others were paid back in fiendish but amusing ways. I don’t usually stay glued to a TV screen for a few hours on end, binge watching, but this show sucked me in.
Me too. I stayed up all night once watching. Kind of addictive…
I found the dark humor had a real sense of justice, and it was at times both gut and heart wrenching, as well as downright funny. The character of Saul Goodman was and is a hoot, and he is also sympathetic for someone so bent, but he wasn’t actually an evil man. Neither was WW, and he was bent too. It’s all good, man.
Trump’s recent speech to the CA GOP, an organization that even lost Orange County, was not inspired. Saying he actually beat Biden in the state he lost by 30% is just phoning it in. Henry Kissinger had the same problem with a distracted 79-year-old Mao when they met in 1973. Kissinger had some geopolitical asks and Mao wanted to send 10 million women to the US in lieu of paying money. Mao died three years later never having regained his ruthless mental agility. Similarly, there is no evidence that the slobbering fat man is going to get sharper or better connected to reality in coming months.
A Member of the House rushing to a vote pulled a fire alarm instead of the button for the elevator. Ol Kev wants an ethics investigation and punishment. The irony here is blazing. A republican and his cabal of extremist “burn it down” goobers are free to destroy the government with no ethics problems when they try to shut down the government, throw millions of federal workers off their pay for who knows how long. And then with the shut down barely averted the goobers are screaming for Kev’s head on a plate brcause he got enough democrats to accept a pile of garbage full of draconian cuts and no money at all for Ukraine. But no ethics were trampled in any of this shit show. It’s a damn shame folks in Florida voted for Matt Gaetz. They ought to be ashamed of themselves
Irony
His comments come after McCarthy relied on Democratic votes to pass a stopgap funding measure to avert a federal government shutdown Saturday night — a move that hardline conservatives had threatened could cost him his job.
“I do intend to file a motion to vacate against Speaker McCarthy this week. I think we need to rip off the Band-Aid. I think we need to move on with new leadership that can be trustworthy,” Gaetz said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“Look, the one thing everybody has in common is that nobody trusts Kevin McCarthy," the Florida lawmaker continued. “He lied to Biden, he lied to House conservatives. He had appropriators marking to a different number altogether. And the reason we were backed up against the shutdown politics is not a bug of the system. It’s a feature.”
… … … … … … …
How much power does on member of the House have? Gaetz seems to believe he is some sort of dictator all by hisownself.
He’s high on his own supply. He is not well loved among the sane members of his caucus. Perhaps they will remind him of the thin ice on which his sexual misbehavior has landed him. Or not. Plenty of that to go around I guess.
In any case, I’m guessing he doesn’t have the influence he think he does. Mugging for the camera is not the same as being an effective leader.
I’m familiar with much of Georgia as I have relatives in the state. But I’m still trying to work out how those who voted for MTG and her ongoing shenanigans accept how she operates for herself rather than them. Her district must be inhabited by some very strange folk.
I disagree. I think it was, like most “high quality” series (e.g., The Sopranos) a gloss on a pile of crap. A waste of talented actors in search of a hook for a not-very-discerning audience.
I get so annoyed when dems whine about Biden’s age and utterly forget that trump is 77. And just the other day he crowed about beating Obama for the presidency
Sheesh!
