Claremont Institute back in the news.
“Well, my vote at the beginning of this term for Speaker of the House was for Hakeem Jeffries, and I do not intend on voting for a Republican Speaker of the House. But I believe that it’s up to the Republican conference to determine their own leadership and deal with their own problems. But it’s not up to Democrats to save Republicans, from themselves especially.
“Would I cast that vote? Absolutely. Absolutely. I think Kevin McCarthy is very weak speaker. He clearly has lost control of his caucus. He has brought the United States and millions of Americans to the brink waiting until the final hour to keep the government open and even then only issuing a 45-day extension. So we’re going to be right back in this place in November.” – AOC, today on CNN.

Exactly…
If, after a dozen failed votes, Kevin makes a speech in front of many cameras, says Republicans can’t run the place on their own, he’s has a newfound respect for Pelosi in her leadership qualities, promises to restore Ukraine aid then asks democrats nicely for “present” votes.
Then I could support Jeffries asking this of the caucus.
If Kevin was smart, he’d try and pass a rules change that makes votes for Speaker be “plurality wins” vs majority. This way, if Republicans challenge Kevin again, they would likely install Jeffries. This would likely keep his peeps in line.
