After nearly 40 minutes of discussion, Rep. Will Mortenson (R-Pierre) wrapped up saying an elected official is a privilege not a right. The final vote was 36 yes, 31 no and three excused. You can see the vote below.
No lawmakers spoke in Ravnsborgâs defense on Tuesday.
Ravnsborg will now have a trial in the Senate, no sooner than May.
Ok, I stand corrected. The SD GOP has (barely) passed the minimum bar of holding their own accountable. Letâs see if they stick to their guns and remove him in May.

Nope, a minority of republicans voted to impeach.
62 republicans, 8 democrats. If all the âexcusedâ were democrats, that would be a 31-31 tie among republicans.
(Of course, that might be the plan. Argue that if only they could elect more republicans they wouldnât have impeached.)

Yeah, the bare minimum indeed. It was not enough to have more yesâes than noâs; SD law requires a majority of the total of 70 legislators to vote in favor, regardless of abstensions, so impeachment would have failed with only one less vote.

The thing about these cretins is they get away with killing a human being, but thatâs not enough. No, this fuckface canât walk away after playing an amazing get ouy of jail free card and commit to doing some good in this world. Heâs still crying about keeping his fucking job!
