My condolences on you losses.
I’m glad to see you here again.

Come to my house for the mash potatoes: whole milk, loads of butter and possibly some creme fraiche if still too low on the creamy-ness scale…

YOLO mash.

I’m still clinging to the evanescent hope that we can reverse our trajectory in the mid-terms, but I fear John Updike predicted our future in his 1992 novel Toward the End of Time. In it, he describes life in Beverly, Massachusetts (a little too close for comfort as I live next door in Salem) over the course of a few months after the collapse of American power and civilization in the wake of a nuclear war between America and China which only barely damaged New England.

His masterful writing horrifically feels like what’s coming. The only thing he missed is that the end of America was brought about not by war, but by half the population of America, at peace and prosperous, voting in a fascist regime that dismantled its democracy, destroyed its economy and surrendered its national interests to foreign dictatorships.

Some things were beyond even Updike’s unparalleled fertile imagination.

Accepting what America is, is hard. To probably die knowing my generation was most responsible for my county’s demise will be harder still.

But I will fight to my last breath to make Updike’s vision be only another masterpiece of his fiction.

I say let’s stop with the micro-managing recriminations and face what we’re up against without illusions - or flinching.

Now we’ve had to learn again that in politics, there’s just one issue. - and we have to be constant, loud and singular in our message. We have to revive FDR’s playbook. It’s us against the super rich. FDR knew that. And the Republicans have learned it but transmogrified it into an us against the elites, which they successfully defined as anybody with a college education who chose to be something other than a greedbag hedgehog.

So we have to redefine it back to its original meaning. It’s us against the billionaires who don’t want you to have a living wage. It’s us against the CEOs who don’t want you to have a union wage. It’s us against the billionaires who want to ship more of our jobs overseas. It’s us against the billionaires who want to take away your social security and pension. It’s us against the corporate agriculture that wants to get rid of the few remaining family farms. It’s us against a few giant corporations that want to have monopolies over everything. It’s us against foreigners like Elon Musk who was born rich in South Africa, came here and became the world’s richest man, largely on our tax dollars, and now wants to get even richer by making all of us poorer. It’s us against the billionaires and only we can stop them from winning by voting for Democrats everywhere.

We have the 48% of the population that comprises the Better Angels of America. We now just have to pound this message and pound it and pound it again so that we can swing over 10% of the Bitter Angels of America for the next few election cycles if we are to save this country.

Dear Idaho, Kansas, et al.,

If you are worried about population decrease because of access to abortion, don’t worry, I have a solution. For every terminated pregnancy, an additional immigrant is allowed in to your state. If you’re really worried about population decrease, make it two immigrants per abortion.

If you complain about this proposed solution, then perhaps your original complaint wasn’t genuine.

With No Respect,
Edward

I’m sure the Supremes will follow the original intent of the framers. Count the people in the camps and divide by 3/5.

Under cover of Gaetz, the Chris Wright appointment shows that the first steps in making the US into a PR arm for oil-exporting states are being taken…

“decreased births” were inflicting “a sovereign injury to the state itself.”

  1. Accelerate global warming
  2. Increase population growth
  3. ?
  4. Profit!

He intends to reccess the house creating a conflict with the senate who, assumedly, doesn’t want to reccess. Then dumpster steps in and “solves” the conflict by forcing the senate to reccess as well.

We’ve been over this.

You have to wonder what other details his nominees have failed to disclose to him. You would think someone as smart as TFG would have better vetting.
(The vetting consists of “since competent people want nothing to do with me, I will go with the most obvious sycophants instead. Also, competent people might disagree with me and they would know enough to rebut me when I blame them for the outcomes of my policies.”)

Those planning a semi-permanent move or at least a bug out bag, remember: When the going gets tough, the tough get going … to where the going is easier.

Not my definition of “tough”, but there it is.

Losing family members, friends, hurts. They aren’t replaceable. But they can be celebrated, as you advise!

Snow leopards are an endangered species. The amount of Botox injected into Matt Forehead could possibly be hazardous to the health of snow leopards.

I agree with everything you said except for the point that trump knows that mass deportations will kill the economy. He may have been told that - but I’m sure his hatred of migrants will win out. He doesn’t give a fxxx about how the economy affects everyday people if he did he wouldn’t be talking up tariffs.

He told us his admin would be about retribution and we gotta believe him and quit saying ‘but he doesn’t really mean that’. Remember the children being separated from their families? As of a couple years ago some of those kids have yet to be reunited with their parents.
