Hegseth was so outraged at being removed from duty at Biden’s inauguration that he wrote a letter of resignation including this: “Fuck Biden anyway.”
Definitely no reason whatsoever for those paranoid liberals among the brass to suspect that Hegseth might not be well-suited to offer protection to Biden. Sheer paranoia.
Trump will do anything to run down or destroy anyone who has done what he calls manly.
Since he has always been protected by bodyguards he tried in his first admin to hire real men and then thought they would kiss his cowardly ass and make it appear he was a real man.
Now with his power he will try to destroy any and all real men.
So one cabinet nominee paid off a woman (though the sex was “consensual” … sure), another (allegedly!) had sex with an underage girl and engaged in drug-fueled orgies.
tcf is probably wondering why he wasn’t invited to the latter or why Hegseth didn’t slip him a number for the woman.
(And as one commenter noticed, it’s the sex that gets the media, not the fact that these are unqualified idiots.)
That would give Trump a headstart on setting up his administration, instead of having to wait and see if they can get through the Senate after he’s inaugurated. It’s why he wanted advance agreement to allow recess appointments.
Well, that and he wants to appoint some thoroughly unqualified people with the least possible damage to his slim majorities in the midterms.
Why not have court maritals of generals for previous military interventions that went awry?
The invasion of Iraq. Beirut barracks in 1983 which took the war of 241 marines. Etc.
Wars don’t always end quickly and cleanly. It’s not like WWII where there is an armistice between the parties signed on the aircraft carrier and Americans are cheering in Times Square. Or the Balkans where the Dayton agreement is signed. A guerrilla style factional conflict like in Northern Ireland where the parties signed the Good Friday Agreement. Or the Tamil Tigers where they end in defeat. The Afghanistan war became a sinkhole and the American involvement had to end somehow.

Of course, the same thing applies to an administration, and its lackeys, that freely lie to attain advantage.
A headline like today’s MM’s, Hegseth Settled Sex Assault Claim But Didn’t Disclose It To Trump, is only as true as the source allows it to be.
Remember the questions about who was in the loop about Gen. Flynn’s contacts with Russia, and who he might have lied to in the administration about what he did?
As a refresher, WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump changed his story Saturday on why he fired Michael Flynn as his national security adviser, now suggesting he knew at the time that Flynn had lied to the FBI as well as to Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with Russians during the presidential transition. (Trump alters story on why he fired Flynn | PBS News )
“whether the military leaders could be eligible for charges as serious as treason”
Trump is trying to do for military discipline what he has done for American politics: raise up a populist agenda that inverts the hierarchies and elevates junior officers and enlisted people (let’s just observe, since this is Trump: enlisted men) over & above their superiors in the chain of command.
“I’m a specialist who can operate a K-BAR and in a pinch, a mortar. The generals will learn to respect that, now. Which one of you guys is telling me what to do, again?”
Interesting idea, but the problem with anything close to the scale that he’s talking about would have a massive impact on agriculture and the service industries that rely on illegal immigrants, and “wink wink” employment agencies that handle those people as a middleman. The NYT had an interesting article on that yesterday.
It would kill the economy, and I think Trump knows that. It was an empty promise to get elected. The “mass deportations” will be kabuki theater, a few planeloads for media consumption.
Well, sure. The point is to stack the cabinet with sex offenders. I think that’s one of the pre-requisites. As for Tulsi, her Russian bona fides got her an easy nomination.
