Unless of course you were looking for a somewhat normal, placid mood. I have no idea what he was seeking under those drugs, except for a continual high, with a somewhat normal “affect” to the world. And realize, he has, at the same time, been taking drugs such as fentanyl and zolpidem (Ambien) along with the others, to sleep, and to bump up the highs. (Thanks, Dr. Ronny.)
I would not be surprised to see an OD sometime in his future, with no doctor who would admit to be his mule/supplier. Read about the last days of Michael Jackson.
Just because TCF was a president, it does not mean that he wasn’t, AND isn’t still, a junkie.
About ticket splitting, Lawrence Carvel says, and on this he has been proven right, that voters tend to come home.
With that in mind, the ticket splitting showing up in the polls is more likely to be pollsters herding in regard to the presidential election being close.
In regard to North Carolina and Mark Robinson, my question is will Trump’s hand picked nominee who he know treats like he has leprosy, cause Robinson voters not to vote for Trump? I doubt they will vote for Harris, but not voting for Trump is another matter especially how Trump is treating Robinson and not allowing him to be at a Trump rally.
The only place other than North Carolina where I would expect to see much ticket splitting is in Texas because to know Ted Cruz is to hate Ted Cruz and after being their senator for 12 years, by now Texas knows Ted Cruz.
Chicken/egg thing (although in science, the egg definitely comes first).
Sure, he may have purchased twitter while High (420 is right in the price), but his actions in just the last weeks, he’s being blackmailed out the wazoo and is trying everything to get the guy into office who can deliver that much-needed pardon.
It’s sad that loyalty has long been a central value for old-fashioned rank-and-file Republican voters, and that that loyalty has been so gleefully and cynically abused by the worst personalities for years now. I’ve spoken with some of them phonebanking in the past, and the idea of being disloyal was so awful for them to contemplate, even though their party had clearly abandoned them. They did need permission to vote with their heart and conscience, and I was happy to give it to them. And upset to see simple people like that having been used that way. OTOH, many have left the party since those days. Hopefully the rest of the sane ones are jumping ship as we speak.
I’m usually the first person to encourage ethics in business practices, but it’s really hard for me to get mad at people living in a house that’s falling apart next to the new airport selling it for three times what it’s worth.
It occurred to me that a few things are probably true. It’s almost certainly true that Trump will claim that he won 2024, regardless of whether he loses or loses badly. It’s almost certain that there will be points of terror and points of joy tomorrow night. It is almost certain that there will be many opportunities when a subtle politician could declare victory when he has not won, and that argument would be entertained. Trump, however is not a subtle politician. He has announced in advance that he will claim victory regardless, completely undermining his judgment and opinion, and making it almost impossible for him to effectively manipulate public opinion the way he seems to want to do.
You have to take us on a journey, you have to tell us a story if you’re going to lie to us. You can’t just skip to the lie and expect it to work.
I really like modern times, when men and women both paint their face to tell a story, to accent features, to add bright colors and subtle shadows. This type of ostentatious display, like all great art, demands critique. It demands we pay attention to it, and compliment it when it is well done. It is, like fashion, high art.
To call Trump a clown would be an insult to clowns. Clowns are camp, Trump is just bad art.
Trump isn’t a parody. Trump isn’t trying to make a statement. He is just bad art.
Do you think there might have been some sort of event in the last two years that would make a woman’s gender a better predictor of her vote than her party registration?
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced on Monday that she expects Michigan’s unofficial election results to be ready by midday on Wednesday.
I’ll be surprised if it takes that long. The red districts will drag their feet, but with fewer voters in most of those areas, it may not matter.
I agree with your inference, but it’s still a puzzle. It only makes sense if they’re worried about trump voters voting dem for senate (or leaving it blank). If they were worried about Cheney making inroads you’d think they would be imploring Harris republicans to vote republican down ticket.
I saw a, frankly, horrifying video that supposedly has been passed around by a lot of men. A woman is writhing in pain, because she’s losing the baby. The husband is frantically calling the doctor who says he can’t help. A man steps out of the shadows and pretty much says she can’t terminate the pregnancy. But he tells the husband not to worry. He can have children, but with a different wife.
Holy effing crap. That was brutally effective.
ETA: I left this out, but it will be no surprise that the man stepping from the shadows said he was a republican.
I can only speak for myself but I think my view of both years aligns with the general outlook on the HIve–to the extent there is a general Hive opinion. In 2016 I though Clinton would win but was deeply troubled by the last few weeks of the campaign, especially after the Comey October surprise. I hadn’t ruled out a win for Trump but the actuality of it was still a shock.
In some ways 2020 was worse because Trump was the incumbent and had the powers of the presidency. My recollection of thinking here was a similar “nauseous optimism” that exists now. I would love to see a post from Khyber–their analyses were cogent and reassuring back then and seemed to come from a level of serious knowledge about how campaigns work.
Nauseous optimism, and enough beer and coffee to get through the next few nights and days.
