GOP Electeds Complain: Who Leaked Our Victory? - TPM – Talking Points Memo

For the third time, it is NOT unprecedented! The Roe v Wade ruling was leaked to Time magazine before it passed 50 years ago.

(Not yelling at you. of course.)

They know this dramatically changes the landscape for the midterms. And it allows the pushback to begin before Roe is actually overturned. This will unify the Democrats and they know it. THAT is why they’re upset about the leak.

I think it’s because they were caught off guard. They thought they still had another month to get their message strategy together for the decision. That’s all this is. They’re sputtering about the leak because they don’t have their talking points ready yet, and they’re having to wing it.

The fact that all these automatons are saying “sacred” at the same time means they have been given a script by fascist PR Central.

That said, they really are indignant, because it gives the opposition time to mobilize. If the Court had decreed this months later there would be far less time to prepare a theme for the midterms.

Anyway, what are they bitching about? Nobody has a fundamental right to privacy, as the Court itself has now decreed.

Right. And they can’t fire her.

On Tuesday, McConnell added in his statement that the court shouldn’t worry: the Senate would support it, no matter what.

“I want all nine Justices to know there are still principled Senators who have their backs no matter what,” he said

This make a interestkng case for why it may have been a Conservative leak, that Robert’s may have been making a case to Kavanaugh for something less extreme. So leak it to lock it in. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/05/03/alito-roe-leaked-draft-disaster-for-supreme-court/

I guess one rule in war is nobody can touch a SCOTUS spouse. Handy if you are Ginni.

Nah, Lee Atwater would’ve never let them put true believers on the SCOTUS who’d knock down Roe. He’d have known that was a gigantic mistake. They can try to blame Dems all they’d like, but very little of the commentary today is about the leak itself. It’s almost all about the content because people just don’t care how the info came out, they care about the info itself. Atwater would’ve known that.

That makes a ton of sense. They were probably focused on developing talking points around the 1/6 hearings and thought they had plenty of time to prepare for the end of Roe. Now they’re going to spend the next two months having to both react to 1/6 revelations and try to keep the Louie Gohmerts of the world from telling everyone how wonderful rape babies are.

Exactly. It certainly isn’t principled to support the justices “no matter what.”

This and 1/6! Yes. Beautiful.

It’s interesting that one of the latest buzzwords in our current politics is “woke”.

Well…

WE ARE WOKE

I’ve been “woke” since I can remember.

Well if that’s true, they’ve certainly overcome the timing issue rather quickly!

  • “Be the compassionate, consensus-builder on abortion policy. … While people have many different views on abortion policy, Americans are compassionate people who want to welcome every new baby into the world,” it says.

  • “Expose the Democrats for the extreme views they hold,” the document says, arguing, “Joe Biden and the Democrats have extreme and radical views on abortion that are outside of the mainstream of most Americans.”

  • “Forcefully refute Democrat lies regarding GOP positions on abortion and women’s health care,” it adds, saying Republicans do not want to take away contraception, mammograms and female health care or throw doctors and women in jail.

True facts.

Journalistic ethics (such as it is these days) means the court got a heads up. Which means Ginny would have spread it to the GOP like covid at a garden party.

I find it pretty believable that GOP would have a hive mind response.

I doubt that Re: midterms. Republicans take when they can, damn the future or past.

But I would belive a whistle-blower leaked it to fuck with with the GOP primaries. PA for example, gooper will need to go full support of this ruling to make it out of the primary. This will come back on that eventual nominee

The earliest documented leak from supreme court deliberations, according to Slate, occurred in 1852…and a justice was suspected of being the leaker

This from a genius who no doubt eats mayo directly from the jar.

So Axios thought they’d just help it reach the public without an ounce of critical thought attached to it.
