McConnell freezes at the podium and Feinstein has to be told how to vote.

While this is an important story, it is also an emotional issue for many of us.

Contrast Feinstein with the approach of her co-senator of many years, Barbara Boxer. Boxer went out on a high note and is enjoying life. Feinstein, who has more money than God, could have done the same. There are many nice liberal Democrats would will replace her when she’s gone, so it’s really peculiar why she has decided to literally die at her desk.

Me too. Funny how that works.

Porter will not win and she should know she needs more Congressional experience before she jumps in. Powerful, tsunami-like forces are behind Schiff winning this seat, they won’t be stopped.

Personally, I need a few more words to understand what you’re saying.

1.) Retire now. Please. We need a functioning California senator and a (relatively) functioning Judiciary committee.

2.) I know she’s had a storied career.

3.) Goto 1.)

I admire this woman enormously and what I wrote was not intended to criticize everyone who speaks up in these, her most difficult days. I saw no disrespect except that which Turtle emits.

Sadly, we will not get that if she resigns.

Wish her the best of health.

Would that Diane have one-fifth of your current facilities, though.

Sadly, we desperately need her to stay on the Judiciary Committee until her term expires.

But, Democrats could just fill her seat if they weren’t so god damned concerned about their precious comity and arcane rules which no longer exist at least for the GOP.

well, no she isn’t…i’m older than her

tacoma, I’m afraid she is, and age is irrelevant. Senator Feinstein can no longer remember how to vote. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/sen-dianne-feinstein-told-just-say-aye-awkward-senate-committee-moment-rcna96697

I’ve had friends and family in this situation. They weren’t US senators, but were in danger of driving cars, burning down houses, making disasterous financial mistakes, etc. Allowing somebody in that situation to continue as if “this is fine” is objectively cruel.

So, funny thing about rulers… you know, the thing you use to measure how long something is, not people in charge…

Pick up any ruler. Metric, imperial, single-sided, double, doesn’t matter… Now, I want you to use that ruler to measure how long something is… something specific.

I want you to use that ruler to measure how long that ruler is.

What’s that? It says how long it is? What if it’s not correct. What if it’s a wooden ruler that’s warped or swollen just a little bit over the years. What if it’s cracked?

I bring this up because ‘so many politicians’ do this, in part, because the only tool you have to measure how well your brain is working… is your brain. Anything internal is being measured by… your brain. Anything external, the results get filtered through… your brain.

And the brain filters out the familiar. It compensates, comes up with work-arounds, long before you’re aware of the thing it’s working around.

People talk about shut-ins and pet-owners becoming nose-blind to the scents they’re immersed in all the time… that’s not your nose, it’s your brain.

Hearing loss is so pernicious because your brain compensates and interprets until it can’t.

Cataracts get overlooked because the brain uses small movements of the eyes (and the fact that you have two of them) to build a mental image that erases the blockages.

So, why do so many politicians not go out at the top of their game, with all their marbles? Because your brain can’t tell when it’s not performing as well as it used to. You can’t use a tool to calibrate itself.

As much as I’m against simply appointing a line of succession, I really, really cannot stress how much we need to keep both Porter and Schiff in the Congress. I don’t care which of them ends up in DiFi’s seat (they’d both be fine), but the other needs to stay in the House and keep doing the important work they’ve been doing there.

This is a critical point.

The GOP would kill the Senate Judiciary if she left and was not replaced due to GOP obstruction.
