Do I feel empathy for her? Yes, she has done some amazing work, but sometimes it is best for people to make decisions rather than events making decisions for them. It is time.
The late Jim Brown.
DiFi has been my senator for a long time, and before that she was my mayor who helped this City and most people in it get over their grief in 1978 when our mayor, George Moscone, was murdered as well as city councilman Harvey Milk. Those were dark days here but Ms. Feinstein lead us out of the darkness with her healing approach, and I for one will never forget that terrible time.
If someone is inclined to come here and post anonymously and invisibly trash talk about this accomplished and now weakened woman, you’ll have to deal with me first.
It absolutely is Republican bullshit, full stop. We also need to normalize an expectation that elected officials (and really anyone) not attempt to remain in their positions into their 90s (or even really mid-80s). The time to pass our work roles (whatever they may be) on to others should as a rule come well before we turn, say, 85 (I’m a teacher and apply this as much to myself and other teachers as I do to a US Senator). I do hope that basic point can be one takeaway from these situations where people cling to power to the point where they cannot perform their day-to-day responsibilities.
So you are convinced that Mitch McConnell would be true to his word?
It is almost certain that he would deceitfully say one thing and then do the opposite - and contrive some BS reason that he could blame the Democrats for him breaking his word.
The only possible light at the end of the tunnel, that is, when the senator leaves office, is that Adam Schiff will become California’s junior Senator. You can take that to the bank.
There are far too many old geezers in the House and Senate. They need to step aside and allow some younger folks at the table. Neither Feinstein nor McConnell, among others, are mentally fit to hold office any longer.
well, no she isn’t…i’m older than her, yet, here i am…my children tell me i have no filters…which is liberating…about the only things i don’t do anymore are acitivities i have no interst in…i do what i want to do and talk to people i want to talk to…other than that…i’ll consider my self an unvalid when i can’t make my coffee.
i’m laughing at your post.
Direct quote from TMZ: “Senator Dianne Feinstein was at the hospital, TMZ has learned, after tripping and falling Tuesday in her home city of San Francisco.”
Feinstein’s official statement: “Senator Feinstein briefly went to the hospital yesterday afternoon as a precaution after a minor fall in her home,”
So… sounds like TMZ was highly accurate.
Either way, Feinstein needs to go.
Because they’re fundamentally greedy and selfish people, holding power to serve their personal needs and those of their true constituents (read: monied, donor class benefactors)
That’s a waste of a brainwave. Nobody forced her to run for re-election as an octogenarian. That’s on her. She’s a selfish asshole, facing the consequences of her own actions.
Yes, he’ll be great. But I’ll be sad to lose Porter. I hope they find some other useful place for her.
Or, Porter will be great & I’ll be sad to lose Schiff. We have an overabundance of talent!
“Boehner… BAYner? BAYner? Boner. Own it.” Anthony Weiner.
? … Not understanding .
… is this aimed at me ?
I have no quarrels of any significance with DF
… do feel that were the situation different, were there a modicum of professional courtesy & respect (instead of this ugly MAGA end of times stupidity) … maybe DF would be inclined to take a victory lap, be lauded by her peers & be granted the opportunity to make a graceful farewell to a fine career.
But McConnell has let it be known that he will not grant his opponents any sort of dignified departure - he will exact a price - and the price will be in the form of loss of incremental power. He has made it clear via the blockage of Garland, the astoundingly rapid seating of Amy Coney Barrett & more that he will ignore common courtesy (& basic decency) and rule to his advantage.
So, we are where we are - and the optimal path under the circumstances is to hope that DF can summon up the stamina and clarity to contribute for one more trip around the sun! And that every Democratic Senator … oh Hell, Every damn Senator with an ounce of integrity, will in their own way extend to her decency & respect.
What??? Get a job, hippie.
Hippies are now geezers. I was once a hippie, now I’m a geezer. That is probably true for many participants here.
ETA. And I don’t need a job because I have Socialist Security and a good retirement package.
No, no, no … I was immature then
… and I’m immature now!
Martha Coakley
Hillary Clinton
Kirsten Sinema
Diane Feinstien
I thought they only oppose her committee seat being filled if she doesn’t retire, but simply steps down from the committee?
Gerontocracy… it’s getting rather old…
Not even then. How hard is it to train someone to make your coffee just the way you like it?
