Another thing about Trump is you can buy him cheap. Forget the fact for a second that using tariffs as leverage to reward or punish other countries is a horrible abuse of power, and impeachable if we had a functioning House, these are mere trinkets. He should have been able to extort much more if he knew how to make a deal.

What we’re dealing with now is in large part a consequence of letting generations of well-connected white guys escape the consequences of their actions.

I was just about to give that a like until the last part of the last sentence. White guys is superflous and wildly beside the point. This is what power does. What wealth does. What the political party that is serving wealth and power does. When corrupt govts. in South America do stuff like this do we claim they are going easy on brown people? In Africa, do we claim the black corrupters are given a pass because of their color? We would be much better served addressing the real dynamics of power, wealth, and corruption rather than diverting any of our thinking/efforts on how to work racism into the equation/solutions.

Critical thinking is difficult to teach and it can be really hard to grade. I know this from experience: when I taught World Cultures to 1500 at the college level, it was a major focus. It took me years to develop assignments that I could train my TAs to help grade. Once I did that, everything got easier.

The only way he can control the Epstein scandal is to stop the release of the files which he did by demanding an investigation of Clinton, Reid Hoffman, etc But in doing so,he’s made it worse for himself.

Also, he can’t control the Epstein estate (please correct me if I’m wrong) and what they choose to disclose.

And now Trump ramps it back up again by demanding this new investigation, implying there is the equivalent of a client list. Because otherwise, what leads are there to be investigated? It’s a clusterf*ck of their own making.

So, the investigation into Epstein and his associates was ongoing throughout Merrick Garland’s time at the helm of DoJ. When Donnie’s regime assumed power, they closed the investigation (@muellershewrote.com on Bluesky ).
It seems reasonable to me (IANAL) that any defense lawyer would ask (1) what changed between January and November that justified reopening the investigation and (2) where’s the paperwork from the investigations Garland supervised that led to no charges against my client?
It really seems to me like this can only end in the kind of shit show we’re already seeing from Donnie’s efforts to use the courts to enact his vendettas.
ETA: Of course, it’s still a pain in the ass and a big expense for anyone who has to defend against those allegations.

Do you think any of the true MAGATS will ever realize that “only Democrats are implicated in the Epstein files” and “the Epstein files are a Democrat hoax” are not compatible statements?

I go to Foxnews.com when I can stomach it to see some of the comments. They didn’t have any Epstein stories recently (big surprise) except for the one yesterday about the investigation in Democrats. To my great surprise, the commentors didn’t seem taken in, most assumed Trump was in the files, and the most popular comments were people calling for all the files to be revealed - not just Dems. This had not been the case before - the vast majority of comments had been about Trump having nothing to do with Epstein.
