Bondi’s screw up last February (IIRC) is at the heart of this. She was bragging about how the new administration would now release the files that MAGA world had been demanding, and she said this in a Fox News interview:
“I got the quote,” Doocy said. “[Anchor] John Roberts said, the DOJ may be releasing the list of Jeffrey Epstein clients. Will that really happen?’ And Bondi said, ‘It’s sitting right now on my desk to review.”
Maybe she didn’t hear the term “client list” clearly, but that kicked off this whole frenzy in MAGA world to release the files because they think prominent Democrats are named. The administration (everyone but Trump) is now walking that back, saying there is no client list.
And now Trump ramps it back up again by demanding this new investigation, implying there is the equivalent of a client list. Because otherwise, what leads are there to be investigated? It’s a clusterf*ck of their own making.

While Bill Pulte should absolutely get the book thrown at him, I fear he’ll slip through the cracks of the judicial system if the let bygones be bygones faction of the Democratic Party takes the helm again. Above is a link to the Wikipedia article for the man who kidnapped, tortured, and drugged Martha Mitchell to keep her from speaking out about Watergate. He went on to have a lucrative career in business and Republican politics, culminating in an ambassadorship to Czechia during Trump 1 and serving as CEO of the host committee for the Republican National Convention last year. What we’re dealing with now is in large part a consequence of letting generations of well-connected white guys escape the consequences of their actions.
