To be fair, while there’s good reason to believe that Weiss is a dirty little monkey protecting Rudy and Barr et al, he may also be protecting sensitive sources and methods. How do they know Smirnov was lying and what and how much DO they know? Who gave them the info and how did they get it? There’s a lot we don’t know and appearances, while certainly pointing at some of the potential reasons for protecting the info this way, may not be telling the whole story.
ETA: And frankly, Weiss had been ready to give Hunter a deal and get rid of this shit before political blowback and Zombie Fourth Estate compliance with MAGAt KKKult bullshit made it impossible…and if I’m remembering correctly, some judicial douchebaggery was thrown in the mix too. This may be leading to a way out for both him and Hunter. Further, it’s functioning as big egg on certain faces and could be interpreted as not only a bit of political revenge (certainly just a coincidence, no?) but also a warning shot across their bows. While we might focus on being disappointed that it’s functioning to cut off Hunter’s discovery that would have produced some potentially fun info, it’s also a major development and evidence helping to exonerate him anyway.
WASHINGTON — Lawsuits seeking to hold Donald Trump personally accountable for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol can move forward after the former president chose not to take his broad immunity claim to the Supreme Court.
Trump had a Thursday deadline to file a petition at the Supreme Court contesting an appeals court decision from December that rejected his immunity arguments, but he did not do so.
The appeals court made it clear that Trump could still claim immunity later in the proceedings in three cases brought by Capitol Police officers and members of Congress.
I’m not going to disagree with this being really bad judgement. I think she should have fired him and hired someone else to take over once she started the fling with him, but step back for a second and consider your statement “She could have fucked literally anyone else on the planet.” That reduces it to her just looking for a gigolo, and that’s the kind of disrespect people are talking about here.

My view of the Willis thing is that it is a typical Republican/Trump hit job, in the same spirit as the Bush AWOL years from the Texas Air National Guard, the Swift Boat joke, all that was involved in Whitewater, HER EMAILS, Benghazi!, and several more. No one is shadier than Trump. No one is shadier than the Trump-adjacent fuckwits who lend him an assist with the goal to steal an election. Willis made a mistake and she is now trying to correct her mistake. I’m glad she asserted that she reimbursed in cash. Prove that she didn’t. Who cares if it’s shady. She’s not on trial.
