Where I work, there are VERY explicit prohibitions:
Gifts from third parties Cash or cash equivalents, such as gift certificates, stocks and gift cards, are expressly prohibited. Non-monetary gifts (e.g., flowers or food baskets) valued, in aggregate, at or less than $100 in a calendar year may be accepted. Non-monetary gifts valued at more than $100 should be reported to your supervisor. These items should be returned to the giver with a letter explaining our policy. The Compliance Department can assist you with the letter. If it is not practical to return the gifts (e.g., flowers, unwrapped food or other perishable items), then, the items should be placed in a public area where other employees may enjoy them, too. Meals sponsored or funded by a vendor or referral sources (e.g., pharma, nursing home, contractor) are prohibited. Social events, such as departmental holiday parties, should not be sponsored by business partners (e.g., law firms, board members, supply chain companies, or contractors), even if the event is open to all employees in the department or work unit. Gifts, including free goods or meals, should not be accepted if the hospital is involved in a purchasing decision with the giver.

Maybe! But she bought the time on the witness stand through her own atrocious judgement. Don’t take thousands of dollars in gifts from the contractor you’re paying to prosecute the defendants. It’s not a complicated thing to figure out.

- MT-Sen : After one week in the race, Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) has dropped his bid for the GOP nomination to take on Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT). Rosendale was totally screwed when Donald Trump endorsed NRSC-backed GOP candidate Tim Sheehy on the same day Rosendale announced his candidacy. The move does put Republicans in a stronger position to unseat Tester.
How, precisely, does having Dump’s chosen candidate help unseat Tester? Yes, I know it’s Montana. But Tester has already won two hard-fought senate races by being the moderate in the race. And now he’s running against a MAGA Trumper? It will be a tough race, for sure. But I’m not so sure why this makes it any harder … it may even help.
Edited to Add (in case others scratched their head at the statement too) – apparently it just means there is a unified Republican front with a relatively unknown younger candidate with a respectable resume outside politics. I’ve little doubt Sheehy will be full-on crazy if elected, but he sounds good on paper. I guess that’s the strategy.

Outstanding post - the best thing I have read about this entire debacle. No matter how old I get, there are people who write in this forum that can always bring a new perspective to something I may have thought I completely understood. I am not happy this happened, but after watching some of the questioning yesterday, I felt very queasy about how Ms. Willis was being treated. I am hoping she is allowed to continue and she brings this thing home with an exclamation point.

In this case, protecting the “truly fucking bonehead behavior” (not arguing that it wasn’t) also:
- Protects the prosecution of TIFG for attempting to steal the Georgia election; and,
- Provides some cover to Willis for having to endure some shit that wouldn’t have happened if she were White.
You cannot seriously tell me that no White DA has ever had a side piece (or even his primary piece) working for him in the office. It’s happened, and I know it’s happened if only because of the number White DAs in our history combined with the lax enforcement of sexual harassment policies prior to the “Me, too” era changes combined with the simple prevalence of sex scandals among elected officials. Bet on it: it happened.

Stop it. If you want to silence me for speaking of racism, misogyny, just know it will not work. Just like the centuries of denying rights, jobs, the vote… to Black women, did not work.
David Kurtz wrote about the undertones of racism, gender, power in the questions from the defense attorneys. I was commenting on that. Black women watching got it, women watching got it. Most white men got it.
