Professors screw their grad students and get away with it. Congress Critters screw their staff, lobbyists and anyone else they want to with few batting an eye.

It’s not the screwing it’s the paid trips (that she reimbursed in cash is BS). If you grant someone a contract and he takes you to a leisure trip, that is considered a kickback in most organizations. I worked in the software industry for many years and I know it happens a lot, usually there is no consequence, but if something goes wrong with the project that is used as cause for termination.

Willis should have known that she would be under the microscope and avoid getting herself in that situation. That Clarence Thomas and the rest of the Supremos does the same is not an excuse.

The story of paying him all back in cash is obvious nonsense.

Lower SES people use banks differently than the upper and middle classes. (Banks also actively work to drive these people away through their fee policies.) Add minority status (and especially Blacks) and the differences grow larger. That’s very well documented in the sociology literature, and it’s true even of upper-class Blacks. It’s plausible.

Willis is going to come out the other side, focused and ready to earn a conviction.

I get that. I also work in the private sector and have worked for a few different companies that really stress ethics, kick backs, influence peddling, etc… But it seems like when we’ve had discussions in the past about ethics in the field of law, what would get us fired in commercial fields doesn’t apply. However, in the case of Fani it does.

And even people like that fuck up. That you and so many others either refuse to admit that Willis’ behavior was objectively stupid or insist that it’s all racism is just tiresome. Every time you make the knee jerk argument that this or that is racist when it’s not, you demean real racist attacks and shed credibility faster than a molting snake.
