Leaving the matter of Native Americans aside, the only reason the nation had a white identity was because our founders couldn’t see past their own racism.

Race does not determine eligibility for citizenship. Poverty and suffering do.

These people are right. White people are just plain under-represented in this country! The evidence is there for all to see:

The Presidency: One whole black guy, who has been treated like dirt by Congress from day ONE

The Supreme Court: Two (if you count our current one).

Congress, Governors, state representatives,meta…

White people are just left out, and something should be done about it! Maybe if every citizen could actually vote without difficulty or suppression, the white population would FINALLY be represented.

So my question is this: Why is it that white republicans, who are so discriminated against, are fighting voting rights for all…oh, wait…because THEY want to discriminate against others! But why, if THEY are the ones claiming foul? I just don’t get it.

Relevant really isn’t the issue. It is certainly not newsy that there are whack jobs who say idiotic things. If it was a well known public figure, maybe…but there are people who say and believe all sorts of things.

So right! The media begins with a false premise (usually the GOP lie) and then goes off from there so immediately any Dem on the panel (if they even bother to have one) starts at a disadvantage.

The callers mentioned in the post would be looking to use the Totally Not Racist line.

Republicans are in a difficult spot.

On the one hand, they’ve got a Teabagger base full of racists, bigots, homophobes and xenophobes who are threatening secession because that’s how much they hate the black guy in the White House.

On the other, they’re dealing with a demographic reality that threatens to make them electorally irrelevant if they stick with the Teabagger racists, bigots, homophobes and xenophobes and ignore everyone else.

And once again, when Republican dogma (racist hate) is proved flat wrong, Republicans react not with self-reflection and reconsideration, rather they try to suppress the proof that their dogma has been proved flat wrong. Because if they’re going to be flat wrong, they might as well be dishonest about it too.

This country has taken one huge step backward is would seem. Either that or civics and history is sorely lacking!

But it is - and always should be - newsworthy when a national network anchor - and a respected one at that - turns a deaf ear to this kind of racism and, even worse, contributes to it himself by choosing to read the most over-the-top, racist tweet around. Steve Scully was president of the White House Correspondents’ Association for several years at the beginning of the Obama administration. And he barely bats an eye when he hears this sort of talk. I find that highly illuminating.

(And it is not that C-SPAN simply tolerates all such talk. Try calling WashJournal and criticizing Israel for their treatment of Palestinians. That will be shut down immediately and has been for years.)
