The senator said that he’d been briefed on the situation regarding the
refugee, who he said hadn’t checked in with federal authorities,
according to BuzzFeed. He added that the example of the “missing”
refugee showed the “wildly irresponsible nature” of the resettlement
program.
…
So a vetted and settled refugee has to check in with federal authorities before leaving their home state? That’s freedom? What crime exactly did this person commit Mr Vitter? So, how long do innocent refugees need to remain under house arrest Mr Vitter?
The parents of Danny Thomas, star of stage and screen and founder of St Jude’s children’s research Hospital in Memphis immigrated from the Ottoman Empire which contained Syria.
Probably the same amount of time as other immigrants that don’t have green cards…I’d think they wouldn’t have fewer travel restrictions than someone applying for residency through a marriage.
There was a graduate student in my lab who was from Ireland. She never had to “check in with federal authorities” before traveling state to state. This crap about a threat because someone left Louisiana is so bogus. Once someone is settled as a refugee I doubt there are any restrictions on travel inside the country. That having to “check in prior” sounds to me like Vitter is attempting to make that refugee out as some sort of criminal or ISIS operative. So the burden of proof should be on Vitter.
Vitter’s the man for the job. If you’re going to pee in your pants, it’s smart to always have a diaper on.
Its like a contest, which politician can make the biggest jackass of themselves over the situation.
But Ireland has never had terrorists . . .
Former Governor of Oregon, Republican (back when they were sane) Vic Atiyeh’s parents came from Syria as well.
Not just stupid. The most cowardly people on earth. And the further south you go, the more cowardly they are.
How is it possible that a flat out loon who has displayed nothing but lousy judgment can get this close to becoming a governor?
That is the craziest picture I have seen on here in a long time. Kudos.
Way too many voters with equally bad judgement or worse.
They were freedom fighters don’t you know just ask Rep. king.
I ask myself everyday “how did we get this ignorant and this paranoid?”. I’m 73 years old and think I’m in a time machine thrown back to the 60’s with the out and out hate and racism in this country!!
When we visited Ireland, everywhere we went they told us not to venture into Northern Ireland, I think they believe they have terrorists!
They emigrated from Lebanon to immigrate into the US.
Americans love to tell each other how tough they are, they can beat anybody on the block, just bring 'em on, the French are cowards, the Russians and Chinese are nothing, etc. Yet they are the most easily frightened people in the world. Scream “terrorist” and then run for cover and vote for whatever GOP politician promises to protect their little asses.
I hope that was snark. If not shoot me a PM and I’ll be happy to recite some Irish history.
I am hoping @Caterpillar was being snarky. Otherwise it would be time to recite the history if the IRA and Irish independence from Britain. A branch of my family came to America in 1816 escaping from the English for perceived IRA activity related to an Easter uprising at which a relative of mine started a riot. That relative lost his home (burned to the ground) and was a political refugee who started his life over in frontier America. There are still surviving members of the modern IRA in Ireland.
Because Louisiana!
