Discussion: Yikes! Poll Shows Rick Perry Could Unseat Ted Cruz In 2018

You probably know that Cruz won with only 600,000 votes in a state with a population of 29 million. It was a strange set of circumstances that came together for that election including a runoff in May, the election in July. It makes sense that Perry could get more votes in a senate election.

So Texas might exchange an asshole for a dumbass? Talk about trading down. Perry’s politics aren’t very different from Cruz’s, but he has the intelligence of roadkill.

And this is good how?

Oh, I wouldn’t say that. Perry isn’t a bit harmless. He’s stupid, but he’s also reliably conservative and hyper christian.

He’d be the worst kind of senator.

My guess is still that Cruz doesn’t run for this Senate seat again, and instead runs to unseat Abbot as governor.

This scenario represents one of the few occasions when replacing a smart person with one who isn’t very bright might yield better results.

ā€œ, but Cruz could actually run for and possibly win the presidency in 2020.ā€

If he couldn’t make it in 2016, then 2020 is no better for him.

Cruz’ election was a fluke, and in a truly statewide contest, he’s not a lock to win.

Yes, being a Big Fish in the Texas Pond, is a bigger deal in Texas than being what Texans would consider an Ambassador to the United States Senate on behalf of The Republic.

Its a feather he wants/needs in his cap for his eventual return to Presidential politics. Been a Legislator, been an Executive, even been on the Judicial side in front of the Courts.

In many ways, his run in the primaries was more or less a dry run that just happened to have a slight possibility of winning. So why not? He needed to test out some ground game tactics and strategies, he wouldn’t cost him his seat or any money and would expose him to a larger donation network.

But I doubt he’d be s big a dick to his Repub colleagues, which could be interesting in terms of the NRP, and possibly beatable in the generql.

He’ll likely be Governor. I don’t think that will ever help him be POTUS. I can see your point about his intended arc, tho, for sure. Thanks.

Perry is dumber than a bucket of rocks, but seeing this snake finally gone…I’ll take it!

Nobody unseats Cruz with the hyper conservative Christian tag, nobody puts Baby in the corner.

What Ted Cruz did at the Republican Convention was pure distilled Machiavellian evil.

Cruz getting the crowd at the GOP convention to boo ā€œVote your conscienceā€ was diabolically awesome.

So Texans prefer outright corruption to sociopathic evil.

It would be an interesting race, because almost everyone hates Cruz because he can’t get along with anyone, but his sly evilness might advance their agenda. He’s a true believer and utterly ruthless.

On the other hand, Perry is the guy who knows where all the bodies are buried, and if anyone should have written a book titled The Art of the Deal it is that guy. He’s dumb about policy and other things he doesn’t care about, but he is very in tune with who knows what and what the going price is for all those unpriceable things like support and appointments and the right word to the right person. He’s pure politician in a way that Cruz cannot understand.

So from a philosophical standpoint, interesting. I’d still take just about any random Democrat over either though.
