Since I read “Andromeda Strain” as a teenager, I had always been under the impression that Medical Doctors and surgeons in particular are very good a making good decisions. Then came Ben Carson, which I first it treated it as a fluke, now Ronny Jackson, and we start to see a pattern. One thing is for sure, Trump capacity for inducing corruption is probably the best in the world.
Shulkin’s description of how he got fired was horrifying.
Unlike most Trump appointees, I’d imagine Jackson actually believes in the mission of the agency he’s being tasked to head. That’s something. And hopefully there are senior staff around who can teach him to do the job.
He had no real choice. Either the doctor was going to have to stay on to do Donald’s prostate exam whenever Trump wanted a quick orgasm or be shuffled off to the VA to take the blame for Trump trying to destroy it with privatization. Either way his long military career has been tarnished beyond repair. He might as well get out of the White House before it burns down.
Trump’s window dressing proves he’s using fake exclamation to obscure the fact that he prefers the company of Russians.
Trump lies to everyone all the time.
Where did you read about Shulkin’s firing? I’d like to read it.
It’s a next to impossible task for even someone who knows what they are doing. I don’t think the bureaucrats are going to help someone charged with the mission of ending their jobs with privatization.
This appointment is like putting Carson in charge of urban renewal because so many black people live there. An army doctor may know the problems in the VA health system (not anything about the vets and their families other challenges), but he will never have the resources or support from this GOP Congress and president to fix them.
I feel an early retirement coming on so this guy can spend more time with his family before joining the Navy National Guard’s medical division.
This piece talks about it.
Shulkin’s firing is the latest example of Cadet Bone Spurs’ cowardly lyin.
thank you!
@hassler - yes it is. He told a rally that when things don’t go well then it’s “Jim, you’re outta here! You’re fired!”
He’s never fired a real person once. He’s too goddamn chickenshit to look them in the face and say it and that whole Apprentice shtick is a big fat lie.
I did! She was really good. Of course, she was nominated for an Oscar, so she must have been.
He’s a military doctor - with lots of stars and stripes and everything! - and the VA is a department about being doctors for military. How much more qualified can you get?? It’s just like how you get a black guy to run HUD. Hiring some schmuck who just ran a bunch of hospitals would be totally stupid, OK?
Bwahahahahahaha
Yep. Just saw it.
Of course. And that Executive Order was codified in the Constitution by the 13th Amendment. Certainly a required step in making Lincoln’s Executive Order something that would be very difficult to undo later on, as I’m sure some knucklehead might have tried, at least at the State level.
The Thirteenth Amendment (Amendment XIII) to the United States Constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. In Congress, it was passed by the Senate on April 8, 1864, and by the House on January 31, 1865. The amendment was ratified by the required number of states on December 6, 1865. On December 18, 1865, Secretary of State William H. Seward proclaimed its adoption. It was the first of the three Reconstruction Amendments adopted following the American Civil War.

Unfortunately the people following THOSE orders were very good at what they did.
Yesterday Chris Hayes interviewed Shulkin who described an amicable phone conversation with PP on Wednesday who asked questions, all went well, then hours later he was told he’d be receiving a tweet in which he’d be fired.

“We spoke about the progress that I was making, what I needed to do from a policy perspective to make sure that we‘re fixing the issues in VA,” Shulkin said. “He was very focused, he was very inquisitive about the things we were working on, making sure we were focused on the job at hand.“
Trump on Wednesday evening announced on Twitter that White House physician Ronny Jackson would be nominated to replace Shulkin.
You can be gobsmacked on a couple of levels; the guy who screams you’re fired at rallies can’t do it in person and is hypocritical enough to lead Shulkin into thinking everything was cool.
Yeah I finally read that, but thanks and I am gobsmacked on a number of levels. The personnel office is apparently staffed by low level criminals who have multiple convictions for various criminal acts.
You can’t even get hired for a DA’s office if you have so much as been arrested. This is unbelievable.
Your sacrifice is appreciated
We liked the original ourselves, but I’m not watching this shit and neither is my husband. But we tuned in because we liked the original version so much and we love John Goodman. I think he was asking himself the whole time what the hell he was doing there.
