Discussion: WaPo: White House Doctor Hesitated To Take On Job As Head Of VA

So he had plenty of time to consider the offer (something you’re never sure about with Trump). Shame on him, and what a stain on his career.
Everyone with think —correctly—that praising Trump’s health and vigor won him the job.
Trump ruins people who don’t even choose to be near him.

Senior White House officials who spoke with the Post said that Trump’s aides talked with Jackson in recent days to gauge his interest, but he was wary about taking on “such a big job,” according to the Post.

And a fine Dunning-Kruger to you too
Instead of politely saying no thank you you now have two options.

  1. Be humiliated in front of a congressional confirmation
  2. Be humiliated when you realize that you don’t have the skills to manage a $200 billion agency , you crash and burn and get the dreaded "you’re fired " tweet from Trump

Stupid is as stupid does

I wonder if he’ll decide to turn down the nomination, especially if he’s getting info about just what the job entails. He’d have to be crazy to attempt something like this with no prior experience.

Can someone book me on Fox news? I’d like to run an agency, too.

The nomination of Jackson, an active-duty rear admiral who has served as the White House physician for the past three administrations, has been criticized because of Jackson’s lack of management experience.

Jackson was nominated ***BECAUSE*** of his lack of management experience. It's called "shaking things up". Ask Roseanne Barr about it, she'll fill you in.

Competence is way overrated. How difficult could this job be? I mean, really, c'mon, it practically runs itself. I bet Jackson will be able to get in 3 rounds of golf a week, minimum.

So, will he remain on active duty while serving, or will he have to resign his commission? Clearly, active duty officers can serve as personal assistants to the President, but can they serve as cabinet secretaries requiring congressional confirmation?

It would be funny if the next doctor comes in, examines Trump and is like “Holy Shit! We need constant monitoring of your vital signs. You could die any day”

It’s also possible that trump told him who the second choice was…

Michael Cohen would form an LLC and cut him a check to alter the findings.

Jackson is, or should be, reassessing his view of Trump’s mental status.

Subtext of entire process: Take this job or lose the one you have. It doesn’t even have to be said.

Maybe he should take the test himself

I don’t know that everyone should be vilifying this man. As an active duty officer he was offered a job by the man who, unfortunately, is the commander in chief. While he may not want to do it, he may be doing it out of a sense of duty. He would most likely be able to retire at this point, but there is the idea that as an officer if the President asks you to do something, you do it (as long as it’s lawful). With the Orange Menace it was probably more of an order than a request.

It’s a little like making the bagger at the local Albertson’s the CEO of the national chain because he never asks you “paper or plastic” because he knows you hate plastic.

Exactly.

Yeah, fits the pattern. Carson…Devos…most of his cabinet, with little or no management experience nor grasp of the actual job. Such incompetence at the very top, it’s mind-boggling. Day after day, the same BS. And today’s news cycle is “Amazon bad”. Just wing it. Damn we gotta get educated folks to the booths Nov. 6th…
