Trumpās horrible, tantrum-filled presidency reminds me a bit of a high-speed police chase where someone has hijacked a car and knows itās just a matter of time before the car runs out of gas or is crashed into a ditch. Trump is trying to cause as much damage as possible before heās caught. Mueller almost certainly will find criminal, impeachable evidence and Trump knows it. Some of Trumpās vengeful destruction of Obamaās legacy will be reparable, much will take decades to reverse. Corker needs to burn down Trumpās house on his way out; an act of conscience and patriotism.

But Senators and Representatives donāt work for the President. They work for the voters in their States/Districts.
This particular point is even bigger for someone like Corker, who is from a very red state where the state Dem party is basically on life support. He could easily garner enough independents and even Democrats to carry him against any general electoral challenge. Indeed, TN is even an open primary state, so he could garner enough votes to carry him through any primary challenge. But instead, he chose to announce his retirement before coming forward.
