I feel so much better now. America is safe now that Sen. Lindsey cares.
Bless his heart.

I really needed some humor today and never expected it would come from him.
Your list is probably complete. Maybe also Murkowski? But the problem is â they will only stand up occasionally. Very occasionally.
But not for another 2 million years.
Are there any less crazy options available?
I expect to see burning crosses on his front lawn by next week.
If Lindsey Graham is the hope of the free world then we are in dire straits.
We are talking about (an admittedly remote) possibility that some moderate republicans will occasionally or permanently cross which, in the latter case, would give democrats control of the senate. Leaving aside the question of where the center of gravity is for todayâs democratic party, do you think that replacing Schumer by one of the progressives will increase the chance of moderate democrats crossing over?
We may discuss in principle whether we want Democratic party move further towards the center or to the left. But the real question (even if slightly exaggerated) is this: do we want to do everything to minimize Trump-induced damage today even if this implies compromises; or do we spur any and all compromises regardless of damage this causes today so that when (if) we get power in four years, we can go all the way in reforming the country without any opposition?
not likely happening
short of McCain, anyone crossing that aisle will face a primary challenge.
Target safe seat, but less crazy Republicans.
Problem is who is out thereâŚn please donât say country over party, those folks clearly love their good government jobs.
Heller is supposedly a moderate.
Might have said Murkowski, but Iâm not sure if sheâs game for getting primaried twice.
Look. Now that the election is over, Iâll admit it. Yes, I voted for Clinton, never fear. But my excitement died the first time I heard âMajority Leader Chuck Schumerâ in comments here. I canât think of anything that says âbusiness as usualâ more than Chuck Schumer.
As I read about Graham and Rand Paul standing up on their hind legs, it occurs to me that Trump himself is the shiny object, the squirrel that is distracting us all from the real problem which is the Republican hegemony that is going to wreak havoc on us all now.
Now that Trump is elected and every prediction about him bringing down other Republicans up for election didnât happen - (even the ultimate crook in CA, the bluest of states, was re-elected - Darrel Issa), the smart ones are quickly realizing that they have nothing to lose. It is a blank check - Trump resigns or is impeached? They got Pence. All they want is total domination and when they pick the SCOTUS, the coup is officially a fait accompli. Meanwhile, if Trump goes down many on the left will feel like they have effected real change and saved the world from disaster.
Just remember, with or without Trump, Bannon, Guiliani - all of those evil actors - if every one of them was gone tomorrow, the Republicans are still poised to do every single horrible thing they have been trying to do for years. Entitlements - done deal. Continuing voter suppression - done. Ruining the SCOTUS for DECADES - done. Emasculating the media - done. Reversing all efforts at green technology - done. Handing the keys to the corporate masters - done. Permanent Patriot act, permanent war on terror, repeal of everything done by Obama, LBJ, even FDR - done.
I just had a terrible epiphany in which I realized they do not need Trump to do any of this- in fact, if he proves to be too much of an impediment or an embarrassment, he will be gone and IT WONâT MATTER AT ALL.
The only republican that can even mention being a check on trump is a republican that didnât vote for him.
You know today I live with a heavy heart because the only child I had that actually graduated from high school and went thru 4 years of college voted for trump.the other two had the common sense to listen to me then access the political agendas on their own and chose Clinton. My little girl actually taunted me the day after the election with GOP and donald talking points. So I asked her,you didnât do your home work did you? you are relying on conspiracy theories and enuendo spewed by the the donald . She told her mother" my dad needs to stop talking this way to me" my wife told me.
BTW this was all by text exept for my wife telling me to leave her alone because she said that she doesnât want to say something that me hurt me. I told my wife itâs to late for that. She voted to take our healthcare away. She voted to take my mentally ill brother in las medicaid away she voted to turn back the page and make racism the America of today.
I text my daughter and said to her . I love you. she replied Dad I love you.
At this point Bernie could be an alien from outer space, not many people care about his affiliation, and look, Trump was vetted and does have mortally disqualifying characteristics, the most of any previous contender for POTUS, but he won âeasilyâ.
Weâve gotta get out of the group think that the Dem intellectual elite have a lock on wisdom, that they got it all under control, and all that three dimensional chess bullcrap, these guys arenât the ones who should be the public face of the Dem party anymore.
Yes replacing Schumer would help bring Dems home, especially like the ones who voted for Obama twice then voted for Trump.
On your second points, letâs try doing what Republicans would do, using their methods not, their delusional ideology. They are kicking the shit out of the Dems on every metric as far as I can tell, and not because most people are voting for them either, or their stupid ideas, so yeah, by all means, letâs do something radically different.
Graham needs to acknowledge how con artists work. They do not see themselves committing larceny or fraud, but rather âeducationâ to the mark. There are people who say we need to go through the coming Hell to appreciate what we had. My sense is that because nobody with accept blame for what happens, much as the German middle class denied what they did in 1932, the dysfunction will continue for decades. We are now the punchline of last yearâs Russian joke that the 2016 election would be âhistoricalâ no matter the outcome: historical in that it meant the election of the first woman as US president, or historical because it was the last election ever held in the US.
I wouldnât count on Portman. Unless it affects him personally he will go along with whatever the Party of Trump (POT) wants him to do.
Indeed, they would.
McCain is now newly elected and may or may not intend to run again. But he doesnât really have the moxie to do anything like this.
