You can have all the mojo in these early States and still not get elected nationally. That’s the reality.
Oh really? Please do educate me on how that works then, because the historical record on presidential primaries says the complete opposite to what you’re imagining. There’s a reason why candidates invest so much time and energy in these early states.
In 2012 Guiliani tried the to play to the tack you’re suggesting. He disregarded the early states and didn’t bother with organizing a ground game until the Florida primaries. In spite of carrying a commanding lead, the fact that he didn’t contest the early states spelled his quick demise.
That’s not “politics” that’s “petulance” and it comes across as such. Tactically, it’s kinda stupid because to anyone who isn’t already on board Sanders’ train, it makes him look erratic at best when he wanted more debates in the first place.
Under the rules the DNC set, if he agrees to do it, the DNC can and will sanction it. The explanation for why he won’t do it is bogus.
Refusing to do this, after the months and months of complaining that DWS has been limiting debates because Hillary, who is a first-rate debater, wanted that for some reason is a huge mistake. It sends exactly the wrong message to the people he has to convince to change their minds.
The people who are already devoted to him will, of course, refuse to see it because that’s how they roll. He can do no wrong as far as many of them are concerned. But as usual, they seem to be losing sight of the fact that he can’t win unless people who aren’t just like them, and indeed, people who are ideologically and situationally predisposed to vote for Hillary, move to his column.
so, it’s okay for Hillary to be political but not Sanders? Your bias is showing. How about a neutral venue, with equally divided tickets? that might be fair.
Well, which is he? Is he the candidate that does what the DNC says, or is he the outsider that will defy the political machine?
And if you think this is just some political trickery from Clinton, you might be right. Notice how easily she’s put him in a bind. Think what the Republicans will do to him.
Part of the reason why people like Hillary is because they know she is a great politician, while Sanders is running that he isn’t like other politicians.
Yes, she did a wonderful job on her health care proposal. She has many strengths. Being a great politician isn’t one of them. Nor is she a strategist. Her SoS record puts her on the wrong side of several key issues.
Nice try, though, at avoiding the question – is Hillary willing to commit to an expanded debate schedule, or does she plan to just pick and choose from the offers based on whether she’s struggling in a given state?
Why is Sanders relying on the DNC, hold the debate, and if we are in late March and the race is still close then hold another debate. He just wants to try to use the DNC to duck the debate because people are finally starting to take a look at all the big plans he wants to do with out the details or ability to get them done.
What is the DNC going to kick everyone off the voter roles is they have the debate?
Say hello to President Santorum and McCain. And President Tom Harkin in 1992. Who can forget those wonderful years when Richard Gephart won in 1988? Yeah, that was the same year that Bob Dole AND Pat Roberston beat H.W. Bush in Iowa.
Seeing his (Bernie’s) reaction to this and the other small bumps like the voter logs access issue is making wonder what kind of fit he’s going to throw when the Republicans really hit him in a general election. You can’t just turn red and shake your fists, I’m not sure calm, cool and collected is in his skill set when it comes to adversarial politics.
And if Hillary agrees to the three additional debates (which Bernie has committed to and Martin no doubt will), the DNC can and will sanction those too, right? Great, since Hillary claims to be interested in more debates, there should be no problem. Unless, of course, she only wants additional debates if they seem convenient for her at the time. Which couldn’t possibly be the case, because there’s obviously nothing about her previous reluctance to push for more debates, then her sudden interest in pushing for this one, but reluctance to commit to any others, that would suggest an attempt to game the debate schedule. Riiiiiiight.
