This is a brilliant stroke by Bernie that trades a NH debate for 3 more in March, April, May. Hillary has no choice but to agree, now that she is being so self-righteous about wanting more debates for the benefit of voters. Let’s see how they respond today.
Bernie pretty much just said he’s in it for the long haul.
Clinton is running another lousy campaign. I’d prefer she didn’t run the country this way.
Right now, Bernie has turned this right around and has the upper hand.
These early primaries are in States that are favorable to his message. I get it. However, after that, he has to win NATIONALLY. Not gonna happen. After these early States, things go kinda South for him. You can have all the mojo in these early States and still not get elected nationally. That’s the reality.
It doesn’t matter if he’s trying to get Clinton to agree to three additional debates. He’s being offered a debate NOW. He won’t take it.
The more people see him the more they like him. He was down 50+ points in Iowa in the NBC poll in February of 2015. This morning’s poll puts him down 3, within the margin of error. That’s what’s going to happen in the rest of the country.
Hillary has not delineated a clear vision of who she is or where she would like to take the country. She just wants to be President.
I’m getting more than just a little bit tired at Sanders thinking he can pull a “Trump” and start demanding things. The national Party doesn’t have to acquiesce to him. If he really thinks the DNC is just BS, let him run on the Independent ticket.
This whole thing is so transparent it simply reinforces many people’s perception of Hillary as calculating. And it makes the DNC look like fools. Would like to see the phone bill between the Clinton camp and DNC since Bernie made his counter-offer.
That’s pretty much exactly how Obama was being treated (dismissed) at this time back then.
Sanders has been fighting an uphill battle this entire time, and he’s been gaining on HRC every step of the way. He’s faced down an 80-1 media deficit against the likes of Trump, and almost as bad against HRC. It’s taken this long just to get the MSM to acknowledge that he’s even in the fight. Personally, I can’t wait for his air time to exponentially increase to the point of parity against Clinton and Trump. Then let’s see how the Nation responds to his message. It hasn’t happened yet, because the nation has been left in the dark as to his candidacy, relatively speaking.
He is just trying to weasel his way out, just do the debate and then call for more if the race is actually still going. The reason behind not having more debates in May is by then the race is already over.
Debates don’t suit Sanders’ style and Ms. Clinton does very well in debate formats. Sanders loves the old stump speech where he’s not questioned on how he actually achieves all that he’s yelling about.
His campaign appearances are directed at the overly credulous. Shouting in debates makes him appear as just another angry, old, white man.
She may win. It will be fun to watch. The deck is stacked against Bernie, as in the disgraceful debate schedule favoring what Hillary THOUGHT would be good for her. But, he’s taken care of that. Then there’s the slanted media. Even Jeff Zeleny, whom I previously respected, purposefully misrepresented Sanders’ position this morning on CNN and implied he would not do the NH debate - only the 3 he proposedl. It’s in black and white that he will. He should be ashamed of himself.
Well of course she wants to debate before NH because she is losing there. But, the problem is that Senator Sanders saying the truth which is true makes him look like he is scared to debate her. What he should have said is I would rather use the time to campaign. He should say it is too late, too little to change the course, and stick his tongue out at Hillary. Hillary should say, fine I wanted to take a nap and get some beauty rest anyways.
You don’t know that. It’s too soon to tell if anyone has been outfoxed. If I were Hillary, I’d go back and say fine to his request for three more debates and then demand they be scheduled in places where she knows she has the upper hand. Then all you Bernie supporters will whine that Hillary isn’t being nice to Bernie. You guys are hypocrites. You think it’s fine for your boy to play politics but throw temper tantrums when Hillary does it. Make up your minds. This is either politics or it isn’t. And if it is, be prepared for your boy to get his ass kicked cause he’s not very good at it.
Pretty funny to see people trying to argue that publicly committing to four new debates instead of just one somehow amounts to Bernie “ducking” debates. If Hillary is sincere in her newfound desire for more debates, I don’t see the problem – if she agrees to the additional debates after New Hampshire, Bernie has already said he’ll agree to those as well as this one before New Hampshire that Hillary is suddenly so anxious for. And I think it’s a safe bet that Martin will agree to the additional debates. So, what’s HIlllary waiting for?
The question is, is Hillary’s newfound desire to buck the DNC and add more debates real, or does she only want to add debates if she can add them one at a time, on an ad-hoc basis, only if she finds herself struggling in an upcoming state?
She’s obviously desperate for an added debate before New Hampshire. Bernie is just being smart by challenging her to accept more debates down the road in exchange. If Hillary’s really interested in more debates, not just more debates IF and when it seems beneficial to her at the last minute to try to shore up support in a state where she finds herself struggling, there should be no problem – she will go ahead and agree today and we will have (at least) 6 more debates to look forward to, rather than just 2.
If not, I guess her supporters can try to explain why she’s unwilling to agree to any additional debates other than the one she finds convenient at the moment. That should be fun to watch…
He said a week before to Rachael Maddow to “count him in” if the other candidates wanted to debate…sanctioned or not. So, was he just lying then?
And now this is a debate at the “whim of the Clinton campaign.” That means that the New Hampshire state officials, Sen. Martha Fuller Clark, Hon. Dudlely Dudley, Rep. Lucy Weber and Jay Surdukowski are “the Clinton Campaign.” Because that’s who proposed the idea along with the Union Ledger. And it was O’Malley who first agreed. But, yeah, political revolution and all, feelin the bern…
