Discussion: Sanders Camp: Clinton Only Wants New Debate Now That 'Race Has Changed'

Discussion for article #245205

So what? You wanted to change the race, Bernie, and you have. Your people have complained (with merit) that the DNC is in Hillary’s pocket, but now you’ve got her to go against the Committee’s wishes. So, are you refusing to take yes for an answer?

He’s playing by the rules the DNC set. And in this instance, he’s the only one who is.

Tell me how this is a bad thing?

Because he looks petulant and like maybe he doesn’t want to face Hillary. And right before the NH primary. I’m one of the Dems who agrees with Bernie much more on the issues, but supports Hillary, because I think she has a much better chance of winning. Still, I think Bernie’s attitude here is dumb.

So Bernie Sanders is an outsider only when it’s beneficial , huh?

I don’t see it. He was calling for more debates from the DNC but he didn’t indicate he’d attend any unsanctioned debates. He’s right to be concerned about it and I think he’s approaching this properly. If the other two candidates have agreed, the DNC should sanction the debate. Otherwise why even have that rule?

Like, there’s a lot of people who want to throw shade at Bernie for a number of reasons, but adhering to the DNC’s clearly established, repeatedly re-stated, apparently unchanging debate rule should not be one of them.

Just because two other candidates are willing to break the rules shouldn’t mean he’s required to.

Because up until now he and his supporters have been calling the DNC and DWS co-conspirators with HRC to keep the number of debates low so he can’t get momentum, has challenged the other candidates to debate him whenever, etc… Now that MSNBC, HRC and O’Mally are obliging him, he’s showing that he’s actually just another politician and hiding behind the rules, that he was just a few days ago saying should be changed/ignored, now that they it could hurt him.

New kind of politician.

I see this topic is going to go nothing but good places.

I’m just getting more and more frustrated with Bernie. I like a lot of what he talks about, and will vote for him if he’s the nominee.

But he reminds my of the kids that ran for SGA in elementary/and middle school making campaign promises of ā€œPizza for lunch everyday, and not Cafeteria Pizza either! REAL PIZZA! And more recess and no more homework!ā€ It all sounds nice but how are you planning on getting it? And this debate stunt (wanting more until he gets one but now suddenly caring about the ā€œrulesā€) is just another example

I lean to Bernie but I would expect him to debate… you can’t pretend to be different but then claim to be boxed by an artificial set of ā€˜rules’…

That’s funny. I don’t recall you calling DWS or HRC names for dictating the worst terms in recent memory for the DNC-sanctioned debates that Sanders readily agreed to participate in. It’s only when the momentum shifts against your girl that suddenly the optics of propriety seem to matter to your camp.

And what’s he supposedly so afraid of if the DNC doesn’t sanction the debate? Since all three candidates would be participating there’s absolutely nothing the DNC can do to penalize him that they wouldn’t also be forced to do to Clinton. And if somehow the DNC tried to penalize his campaign, and not Clinton’s as well, he would probably break the bank in fundraising and would have irrefutable proof that the DNC is actively sabotaging his campaign. Win-win.

Uh, no. He ā€œagreedā€ to those debates because he had to. He’s running on the Democratic ticket. Period. No choice there. He said that he wanted more debate time. Here it is. Now he’s balking because they’re not ā€œsanctioned?ā€ That doesn’t pass the laugh test.

And the momentum has NOT changed for Clinton. She’s still winning nationally. IA doesn’t represent the nation.

When a candidate is actively running on a anti-establishment platform starts suddenly caring what ā€œthe establishment’sā€ (as he’s repeatedly called them)rules are it looks a little… "Inauthentic "?

Actually he’s not refusing to debate, he’s just trying to get Clinton to agree to 3 additional debates in the coming months and he said he’d be happy to debate in New Hampshire.

National momentum is a myth in the primaries. There is no such thing. It’s all about primary momentum and riding the wave, and Bernie does have that going for him.

Hey, here’s a thought. Just spitballing here, but why not get them sanctioned and be done with it? He’s not refusing to debate, he’s just refusing to let Lucy yank the ball away for the umpteenth time.

Why not force the DNC’s hand by all three participating in an ā€œunsancitoned, no holds barred, cage!ā€ debate that Sanders is the only one saying he won’t do until it’s sanctioned?

I am very disappointed in Sanders because of this. He should be willing to debate at any opportunity. Christ! He went to Liberty U And spoke there. This is one debate I am very interested in seeing.
