Discussion: Ryan Foils GOP Plot To Force Democrats Into Abolish ICE Vote

I dunno. Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like it’s time we stop being afraid of GOP messaging and start pushing back hard on their lies and false consequences. I don’t think the American people wouldn’t be on board with this. The headlines on ICE just keep coming, one vile fuck-up after another. Eliminating agencies is kind of a Republican thing, cf. Rick Perry and his “oops” moment.

By the way I’m not saying that Pelosi herself should be using that language; refusing to take Ryan’s bait on the issue was the perfect way to handle it. If the public debate is between disassembling the agency vs. reforming it, I think the Democrats are on the winning side, and so, by the way, are the American people.

Ultimately, we are all about how government can be built and used to make people’s lives and society better. And yeah, this is not catchy and that is always one of our problems.

Hmm. A possible implication there that his meeting with Russia raised even vaster amounts of money.

Anyway. “Raising vast amounts of money”? What does he think he is, a pirate?

Here’s an idea! Try sticking with legislation that has its purpose in bettering the lives of the American people and not the political prospects of Congressmen.

@realstupidDonaldTrump: Show us the money. Where is all the money you raised from NATO?

I’m exhausted and exasperated … when will this nightmare ever end? :persevere:

“However, per Politico, Ryan quashed the idea, worrying that the Democrats would abstain from voting as a bloc, making the Republicans look petty and unserious.”

gee, i think that ship has sailed.

His core group of supporters are not the hearts and minds we’re trying to change (not sure they even have hearts and minds to change). The people we’re looking to move are those who are at the margins, independents, and Democrats who sit out elections. We don’t need to impress a single Trump voter to take back Congress. We do need to get as many like minded people off their asses.

I was talking about the vote to show support for ICE since Ryan has already nixed the vote to abolish.

Periodically Ryan ponders the line of succession.

Rumor has it that Ryan quashed the vote not out of fear of a Dem boycott, but because there was a good chance that it would have passed. If all the Dems and the Freedumb Caucus voted for it, it would pass in a breeze. And you know that if Ryan was against it, the Freedumb Caucus would have voted for it.

I think at this point it’s totally fair to be suspicious of anyone still defending Fuckface even when things have reached the stage there is absolutely no doubt we have a Russian agent in the Oval Office. What stakes does Mukasey have in the investigations? Why does he inject himself into this?

“…we’re looking to move are those who are at the margins…”

I see what you mean and I get it. If will be difficult to overcome the voter intensity of his supporters.
All a guy like me can do is to send a few bucks at a time to Dem and GOTV groups, maybe do some phone work at election time.

Of course they do. ICE got on the tRump tRain early.

So they’re going to do a vote instead about how much they love them some ICE? That’s GREAT news for Democrats in my opinion. Please proceed, Republicans.

Not to mention that ICE has only existed since 2002-2003(?) And it wasn’t “open borders” BEFORE they existed and won’t be AFTER they’re gone either.

But that would be so unfair to the GOP and their base!

You say this frequently, and I agree with you each time.

Don’t forget expressing outrage, particularly to local officials like that GOP county chair who just resigned Ok maybe not straight up party officials unless you are in their camp. But constituent calls and letters to those lower on the food chain do tend to carry a bit of weight.
