Rick Perry ran into a buzzsaw when he tried this for a huge signature highway project he envisioned. The “land-grab” resistance in Texas was so fierce he abandoned the project and removed all reference to his pet project from the administration website. It was a political disaster.
I believe you are a master of prognostication.
May I have the Winning Power-ball numbers for Saturday night?
Yes, but it’ll still be high enough to stop airliners, right? Because, we know, 40% of the illegals in the United States overstayed their tourist or student visas after flying here.
Exactly.
Nothing is going to stop people who want to be here from getting here. That should be the lesson about all borders. They are fictions.
It’s so unfair to throw in the cost of buying private land. Who could have foreseen that? That compensating private landowners thing was just foisted on us by the Fifth Amendment (1789). Darn that Obama!
I would be deeply disappointed if some trump interest has not bought up land that will be paid handsomely for when it is condemned in eminent domain proceedings.
This is actually almost impossible to estimate at the current time as we have no idea what they are planning. Previously it was a wall. Then it was a double layered wall. Then when confronted by a reporter: “ever heard the phrase, show me a 14 foot wall and I’ll show you a 15 foot ladder?”, Trump responded “Then we’ll build it 16 feet!”
Then it was a figurative wall, then it was a “ditigal wall” (whatever the fuck that is), then when adults in congress got involved they admitted that it made no sense to have a full physical wall across the whole border. Instead, they now seem to propose a full wall in densely populated areas and fencing and other measures elsewhere.
So who knows, but here is one estimate at $38 billion from MIT. (https://www.technologyreview.com/s/602494/bad-math-props-up-trumps-border-wall/)
And finally, why should we trust anything the GOP or Trump admin tell us regarding cost?
add another 75% at least because these kinds of projects always go over budget
“digital wall” would refer to using electronic sensors to try to stop border crossing rather then a physical wall. There is a wide array of different things that could have some impact. It’s a much more sane concept then a physical wall, though once again its not going to stop a lot of things, like the 40 percent that happens by air or smuggling that happens other ways, but it at least would have less environmental impact compared to a stupid wall.
Just think what we could do with that money: Infrastructure, educational needs, health insurance needs, climate change programs to name a few. Is anyone starting to see with folks they know that they are sorry they voted for trump/bannon?
Sorry, but the Republicans are in charge. Its either the wall or nothing. There’s no trade off in priorities.
Good let them spend the rest of this session arguing over where the money is going to come from. Keeps them busy.
When you figure out that republicans do not know how to do anything but get re-elected and you tire of the lies and paying their expense accounts you can always vote them out.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Yeah that’s not going to happen.
Suck it up taxpayers - you could have health care but you prefer a wall.
Hope your children die from cancer.
They tell me it’s “too soon to tell.”
LOLOLOL
I’ve already told all my friends who voted for this man and those who “chose” not to vote that I no longer have ANY respect for them.
I’m waiting for this illegitimate administration to pass FADA and then I’m calling each one of them and telling them that I HATE them for voting for a platform that made my gay life ‘illegal’ and to never contact me again. I gave up many friends over the last month but I cannot look at them without thinking the vilest worst thoughts I’ve ever had and I choose to remove the toxic people from my life. Life is too short.
Billions of pesos is only like 50 bucks so no biggie.
And what is it with these Repubs and deserts? President Trounce should build his wall in Syria and block ISIL at the same time for a twofer.
That makes way more sense and the workforce is already there. Plus he could put up toll bridges every 100 feet or so and totally make bank.
In fact, eff the wall. His Orangeness only needs to lie and decree that there is a wall despite all facts against and he’ll end at least 40 to 90% or so of the immigration problem because the followers believe anything.
Call the wall the Mirage and boom-there it is, right next to the dry lakes.
I’m ok with everything they said being a lie… because all of their plans were dumb as shit anyway.
Y’all just aren’t being creative enough - build the wall out of coal. And have those coal miners transport that coal in the back of their pick-em-up trucks.
Then have all the rust belters assemble the coal wall.
What could go wrong with a flammable wall?
GREAT WALLS (AND THEIR EFFECTIVENESS) IN HISTORY:
- GREAT WALL of CHINA. FAILURE. Successful only when massively garrisoned. When supporting military strength waned, invading Mongols or Xiongnu overran weak points, or went around it: "The Xiongnu up north… in 200 BCE overran China, looting and plundering…“the weakened Han Dynasty could not provide enough men to guard the wall, and the Xiongnu simply took control of one of the main gates and entered the land without much hassle.”
http://gbtimes.com/life/failure-great-wall - HADRIAN’S WALL. (Romans in Scotland, AD 122). FAILURE. Although the wall had some success in deterring incursions from the Picts, events passed it by, and the frontier soon moved, making Hadrian’s Wall irrelevant.
- MAGINOT LINE (French-German border, 1930-36). MASSIVE FAILURE. The Germans simply went around it: “German Army Group B attacked through the Ardennes – such an attack was believed to be impossible by the French. One million men and 1,500 tanks crossed the seemingly impenetrable forests in the Ardennes.”

DT himself recently said “impenetrable wall” and he went on to say a “physical barrier”. That to me means something like this:
Only in concrete block instead of steel. In trump’s fevered brain he sees this (from Israel)…
As we all (except DT) know, no wall can be a completely impenetrable barrier. And it isn’t what I would call a “neighborly” thing to do to someone who has not offended us. I live very near the border so this is somewhat personal with me. DT has this image that millions of people are rampaging across Texas, New Mexico, Arizona (where I live) and California wreaking havoc and destruction everywhere and poisoning the blood of our youth (whatever that means). Of course it’s not anywhere near reality but it works for the rubes who populate his rabid base.
Construction of the wall and the subsequent manning of the gun turrets, not to mention maintenance of the wall in inaccessible places is gonna be a lot more than $20 billion all told. And completion isn’t gonna occur in DT’s lifetime either. It’s a fucking scam just like all of his other family projects.
This huckster is in the process of ruining us.
He needs to be removed from office as soon as legally possible.
Don’t forget “the Berlin Wall” which was part of “The Iron Curtain” in Germany
